Apeiron Bound - Multiplicity album cover

The philosophy of the name APEIRON BOUND is akin to the concept of Yin-Yang. This could also apply to the organized chaos element of the band. Much like the Yin-Yang concept, the musical philosophy is to take elements from the most memorable, accessible melodies and combine them with experimental elements that reach levels of the Avant-Garde. "Multiplicity" encompasses various aspects of the human condition. From the musical influences to many subject matters the lyrics touch on, the compositions will take you on a cinematic journey with a varying degree of dynamics. The album's concept explores the themes of Zen and Chaos. Zen represents the "light" side of humanity while Chaos represents the "dark" side of humanity. Both are presented in many forms from metaphorical to literal beings that are used to represent different aspects of humanity.

"Astral Projection" opens the album. It's a short mood-setter. The mood is bright and cheery as keys take the song to parts unknown. "Thought Memory" picks up the positive tones and runs with them. The vocal harmonies are thick and the music is heavy but the melodies shine through. Sweet piano notes occupy the mid-section of the song, and delicate melodies close it out. "Eleutheromania" begins with more piano notes, seguing into heavy rhythms while the vocals toggle between clean and harsh offerings. The battle between light and dark is raging in this song. I hear elements of DREAM THEATER. The guitar and bass solos show some real musicianship.

"Melancholic Zen" is s short interlude that you will hear a few times on the album. Soft and charming piano notes play while you struggle to find the comfort zone and fall asleep. "My Sweet Stockholm" is an eight-minute beast that reflects the angry subject matter of the title. The "Stockholm Syndrome" is "a coping mechanism to a captive or abusive situation. People develop positive feelings toward their captors or abusers over time. This condition applies to situations including child abuse, coach-athlete abuse, relationship abuse and sex trafficking." Harsh vocals and heavy guitar rhythms signify the subject's intermittent anger with their situation, while the clean vocals towards the end represent the subject's acceptance of the matter.

"Firmament" opens with softer and more charming tones. Harsh vocals bring storm clouds into the blue sky, with thunder threatening. It pushes and pulls throughout, as the Yin and Yang themes come to life. "Precious Tribalism" is another short interlude that focuses mainly on the harsher side of the album, with firm drum accents and some tension in the background. Segue to "Emotive Servitude," heavier elements open the song with some impressive meter shifting. The clean vocal harmonies show the prowess of the vocalist. Melodies are interspersed within the rocky blueprint of harsh vocals with chaotic elements. "Absent Familiarity" is another lengthy offering, opening with some keys and a rough guitar cadence. The chorus is very well put together, and strong doses of melody connect some seemingly vague passages.

"Chaotic Fervor" is a song that swells with tension along the way. There is a lot of ambiance here that builds into a harrowing experience by the end. "Astral Reflection" is heavier and more structured out of the gates. Harsh vocals combine with weighted guitar riffs that pulse throughout, shifting to cleaner and more melodic passages before returning with a snarl. Heavy, dissonant passage mar much of the song, with anger in tote. "Era in Finem - Novis Initiis" closes the album. Piano notes carry much of the song along with flute, while sweet melodies develop amidst the heavy drum accents. I love the piano work here...it is such a beautiful medium for music in general.

To start with, the band has fantastic musicianship...there is no doubt about that. The concept of the album is explored meticulously by the band. A few times, I was just a bit lost on where they were going, as well with some of the chord progressions, but that can be expected from Progressive Metal. The enthusiast will need to listen carefully, because the music is quite nuanced. They definitely have all the talent to go wherever they want to in the industry. The songs are carefully crafted, and this was a very pleasurable listening experience, a very promising name in the genre, and another great find by Layered Reality Productions.
