A surprising Thrash/Death Metal release from this German act!
January 23, 2025

The German Metal scene gave to the world the mix between Death Metal and Thrash Metal in the 80s, when both genres’ limits weren’t as hardened and established as today (and Death Metal wasn’t even known), which happened in the turn of 1985 to 1986. It’s clear when someone deals with releases as “Obsessed by Cruelty”, “Endless Pain”, “Pleasure to Kill”, “Sentence of Death”, “Infernal Overkill” and some others. But such formulas aren’t lost in the sands of time anymore, because many acts took them again, and some are working to bring a new life on them. And one of the most astonishing names that are doing such thing is the German act ANOMIC, because their EP “Opacity” is a lesson on it!

The guitarist Raaf founded of the band, and get in touch with his friend Fadi to be the band’s bassist and vocalist (sharing this last duty with Raaf), and Fadi did the mix and mastering of the songs, and his duty created a massive and brutal sonority, but that’s defined as well (what allows the fans to understand what’s being expressed without problems). And Raaf contacted Krzysztof Klingbein (the drummer that plays live with acts as HATE, VADER and BELPHEGOR), who plays on the songs as session drummer, and Stefan Nordström appears as guest growl singer on “On Deaf Ears”. Although the music of the band can be said as a form of Thrash/Death Metal, such a label doesn’t define what really the music stands for. Their music covers am ample range of Death Metal and Thrash Metal elements, what’s clear on the contrasts between dry shrieks and guttural growls, but always with a very good and technical appeal. And their music sounds furious, alive and huge, filled with a massive energy. It means that’s a work that’s hard to resist to, and the tendency is that they evolve and grow a lot.

“Opacity” is brutal and fast, filled with very good instrumental parts (pay attention to some bass guitar arrangements), while “This Blood is Mine” is a massive blow of aggressive energy (and very good drumming) and a nasty chorus filled with growls and shrieks. And “On Deaf Ears” is brutal and oppressive (full of Death Metal influences, especially on the blast beats parts), with very good technical approach and charming contrasts between the vocals’ tunes. It’s hard to understand why ANOMIC just recorded an EP, because “Opacity” deserved to be a full-length.
