Death Metal is a genre that always can surprise the fans, because every musical experiment one musician wants to do on the genre fits. It seems as a mutant that is able to adapt itself to any condition, even on Old School Death Metal ways. And on “Seofon”, the new full-length of the North American act ANGEROT, a different flavor that the usual can be found. Eddie G. (that’s no one else than Jason, the band’s lead guitarist) did the sound engineering, while Andreas Linnemann (the Danish producer/mixing and mastering engineer behind the band’s early works, and is known for his hands on bands works as THE KALI, PERSECUTOR, METAL CROSS and others) did the mixing and mastering, and the result is a heavy and aggressive sonority into modern Death/Black Metal ways, or in other words, it’s defined as aggressive, balancing things in an understandable way. And what lovely artwork of Carrion Design (who took care of the layout as well).

The band plays a form of Death Metal that is near the limits of Death/Black Metal in a similar way to HATE and VADER in some moments, but always showing personality, and even the use of Old School Death Metal elements (as the Hardcore touch heard on the beginning of “Lying Tongues Removed”). But to give the album a different outfit in some moments, the band invited a set of drummers, each one of them playing on a song: Kévin Paradis (of CONSTRUCT OF LETHE, former member of BENIGHTED) on “Rapture ov All That is”, Derek Roddy (of SERPENTS RISE, former drummer of HATE ETERNAL, MALEVOLENT CREATION and others) on “When Witches Dance”, Dariusz ‘Daray’ Brzozowski (of BLACK RIVER, former drummer of VADER and VESANIA, and live drummer of DIMMU BORGIR) on “We are the Serpents & the Saints”, Pierce Williams (drummer of ÆNIGMATUM, former member of SKELETAL REMAINS) on “Lying Tongues Removed”, Marco Pitruzzella (drummer of SIX FEET UNDER) on “Her Songs ov Feathers & Ivory”, Thomas Haywood (a multi instrument player of GRAVE PLAGUE, TO DUST, BRO JOVI, HUMANITY IS CANCER, and VINTAGE WARLORDS, known for his playing with ABIGAIL WILLIAMS) on “A Pact Made in Flesh & Wine”, and Zack Simmons (drummer of GOATWHORE) on “With No Eyes I See”. So be prepared, because the band’s music is really catching!

Seven songs are available on “Seofon”, and each one of them has its own value. “Rapture ov All That is”, “When Witches Dance”, “We are the Serpents & the Saints”, “Lying Tongues Removed”, “Her Song ov Feathers & Ivory”, “A Pact Made in Flesh & Wine” and “With No Eyes I See” are filled with excellent technical work (with many rhythmic contrasts), with guitars, bass guitar and drums working solid as a granite piece, and the low death growls follow a similar way to the Polish Death/Black Metal way that fits on the band’s music.

“Seofon” is a surprising release, indeed, and for extreme Metal fans, to taste the musical work of ANGEROT is a mandatory thing.
