Spanish Thrash metallers ANGELUS APATRIDA are back with a brand new studio album. Out on may 4th, "Cabaret De La Guillotine" is their sixth full length release since their Demo back in 2001. For people who don't know them, we have here a band that has both experience and maturity. Three years have passed since their last release "Hidden evolution" back in 2015. We were prepared for whats coming with three singles: ("Sharpen the guillotine","Downfall of the nation" and "Farewell") before having this new offering. ANGELUS APATRIDA are not the typical Thrash Metal band, in that they incorporate the Classic Metal style and this is pretty good, like in songs "Betrayal" or "Ministry of god". "The Die is Cast" is power-metal injected. This isn't a purely Thrash Metal album even if they call them that way.
They have very much obvious influences, which isn't bad, since they deliver great energy and musicianship. "The hum" is quite a good Thrash song reminiscent of some TESTAMENT with harsh vocals and best for filling the riff hungry! With a starter like "Sharpen the guillotine" we know that this is social issues themed. The bay-area thrash influence is palpable. But it's done the right way so its not annoying. We have ten songs clocking at over 52 minutes. "Farewell" is a ballad (yeah a ballad! Why not!?) that incorporates all the cliche elements of it without being over the top. Nice way to relax a little before the last minutes of the album. We are offered quite good electric guitar passages too. The clean solo parts reminds me a lot of PANTERA's "Cemetery Gates." The vocal harmonies are well done and i like it.
This album is very entertaining and the classic metal approach on vocals are interesting and catchy. While not reinventing the style, have a nice sound, nice tone, and musical arrangements mixing up various influences that makes this album very interesting and valuable. I didn't hear all of them releases yet but i think some fans will agree with me that this one tops them all. Come to America blasting our grounds! We want you here ! LET THEIR HEADS ROLL! For fans of EVILE, CRISIS, & SAVAGE MESSIAH.
