Black Metal is a very versatile genre. It has a level of evenness that can be manipulated and upgraded by many means. ANGELBLAST's debut EP, "Rotting Paradise," is a representation of what Black Metal can offer in terms of diversity in a whirlwind of atmospheric Blackened Death Metal.

This EP was based around two tracks and an ambient outro. The title track was based around very fast riffing that progressed and flowed seamlessly. With heavy elements of atmosphere and an interlude with vocal variations, the track showed what the band was capable of. The track was very well-structured, showing the band had songwriting skills.

"Descending of the Immortals" offered more fast riffing, but it was more atmospherically driven. Like the title track, it progressed naturally with a nice, even flow that complimented each band member. It also did a good job of combining melody and atmosphere for one of the main riffs which made the song more memorable.

The EP ended with "Incarnation of the Fallen," an interesting choice as most bands give an EP an intro only instead of an outro only. Some EPs have both. This added to the structure and the feeling of the record more, as it gave it a unique touch. Structure typically isn't important for a release that is just two full tracks long, but it is important to point out that both tracks were equally strong. The balance kept the EP strong, as no song was lacking in quality.

As far as Blackened Death Metal goes, this was a strong little EP. While the material was nothing groundbreaking, there was massive potential behind this music. The catchy riffing blended with the atmosphere so well that a full-length would give this band much more room to shine fully. I feel that this EP was just a small bite of what is yet to come.
