Here we are with Kisser's first solo attempt. Before I even listen to the album I wasn't sure about this move. Why such a move and why now? Is it a desperate cry from Andreas Kisser for attention? Now that SEPULTURA are going through the hardest time of their career? What do you mean by asking why? Because the life of the band, the Cavalera brothers aren't there to save the day anymore and from what I saw, the latest album wasn't that successful, actually one of the worst in SEPULTURA's history (if not the worst).

Being an already known and highly acclaimed guitarist, no one can deny that, Andreas Kisser has offered us countless musical orgasms with his SEPULTURA works and the Metal scene owes a lot to this man. The fact is that after his - in my humble opinion - effort to keep the Brazilian metallers alive, he seemed unable to do it without the help of the two brothers. And now... a solo album with mostly instrumental stuff. By the way, I haven't mentioned the line up since except Kisser there are many and different musicians that contribute to these two CD's.

Hubris I & II is split into two parts, thus the I & II thingie. The first CD is the electric part, and the second CD contains only acoustic songs. So, what is this album about? Let me tell you. Even though I am not a fan of solo albums released by guitarists, you have seen me reviewing such and having a really positive opinion on many of them. The fact is that Kisser proves to be far enough from being characterized as a talented guitarist in this field. He may kick ass (or kicked to be more precise) with SEPULTURA, but there were many times I got really bored while listening to Hubris. Both CD's are nothing more than mediocre, uninspired at some parts, music. Kisser has even tried to incorporate some Brazilian music in this album, but as it seems Max Cavalera is much better at this.

Regarding the style of the songs now, well, we have some groovy modern tunes, as well as some more virtuosic attempts. You can even find some classical arrangements in here, but mostly in the acoustic part of this album. I don't know but I found Hubris to be kind of boring and I guess that someone who wants something extra from a guitarist's album will find it equally boring. I am not saying that this is the first album you would throw into the fire, but there is now way I would spend my money on this. Would you?
