Advent of Chaos

Amongruins

The sound on “Advent of Chaos” is actually quite heavy. The production is not only as solid as granite; it has everything you wish for if you want the music to come out of your speakers in an impeccable way what you decide to turn the volume up time and time again. Well, I can tell you that AMONGRUINS have succeeded with flying colours in that respect.

Melodic Death Metal from Athens in Greece. That is what you get with AMONGRUINS, a band that has been making this kind of music since 2013 and now are at their fourth studio album with "Advent of Chaos". And it shows that these guys are in their fourteenth year working together in their effort to make good music. I must admit that I haven't been prone to their earlier releases, so this is a first encounter with them for me. And I can tell you right away that I am pleasantly surprised, as what AMONGRUINS brings us on "Advent of Chaos" is really good. It has balls, it is catchy and it has the right kind of vibe for a Melodic Death Metal album.

The sound on "Advent of Chaos" is actually quite heavy. The production is not only as solid as granite; it has everything you wish for if you want the music to come out of your speakers in an impeccable way what you decide to turn the volume up time and time again. Well, I can tell you that AMONGRUINS have succeeded with flying colours in that respect. I have to mention that not everything is done without help from outside the band. On "Into The Flame" you will hear that they have required the female assistance of singer Christiana Chatzimichali (ELYSION, ex-BARE INFINITY), who does a cracking job. The same goes for "Open Wounds", where you will have the luxury to experience the clean vocals by George Prokopiou, another unknown entity for me. He also does a remarkable job. Both these collaborations take the diversity and variety of "Advent of Chaos" up a few notches.

What I am very reluctant to do, and certainly will not do in this review is compare AMONGRUINS to other bands, other than to tell you that the atmosphere and intensity that is radiating off "Advent of Chaos" is exactly what you would and should be hoping for with a Melodic Death Metal album. And that should be enough for anyone interested in this musical genre to make them take a stand and give "Advent of Chaos" a proper listen. And please, if at first you aren't sure of what you think of AMONGRUINS, give them another go. They will grow on you. Unless you already know them from before, than you know what to expect. Whatever the situation, to me this is good enough for another round through my speakers.
