Cat's Got Your Tongue
American Jetset

AMERICAN JETSET is, as you would expect, an American band, hailing from Baltimore, Maryland. They are a Heavy Metal band with a little Party Rock mixed in their sound. When listening to this short album, just over 26 minutes, your mind starts wandering and you have to start wondering. The main question that arises in your brain is why would anyone want to sign these guys? What they do has been done so many times before and also an awful lot better than how AMERICAN JETSET promotes itself.
I have to adhere that the title "Cat's Got Your Tongue" is very aptly chosen. It certainly got mine, as I have had to think very carefully about how to describe what exactly I am listening to. The thing is, the base is solid. The band has thought of some good riffs, a very simple and straight forward sound and short and direct songs to boot. Unfortunately for them everything is very standard, very predictable but also brought in quite a boring way. I know this is not what a band wishes to hear, but this is my opinion.
For instance, take "Tokyo Radio". This song, which was released as a single, starts off with a very promising riff, reminding me of the golden age of Melodic Rock. When Ian Kaine MacGregor starts singing, his very nasal voice is quite the distraction from the (in this case quite) good music. The refrain is even worse, that is so mind boggling bad that there is no way that anyone can take this seriously. But then again, I can't shake the feeling that to me the vocals are the least favourable aspect of this whole endeavour. The music might be average, at least it sounds quite good.
Apparently I am one of the few that thinks this way, because I have found out that in the Sleaze Rock corner of our world they have quite the following. Well, that only strengthens my resolve, as I feel that they aren't even inventive enough, plus lacking that extremely positive and dirty attitude that would put them in that category. Not only that, because although there are some very good sleaze bands there is also a whole hair pit of very bad ones. And I can only conclude that in my eyes and ears AMERICAN JETSET and "Cat's Got Your Tongue" have to be placed in the latter.
