The United Kingdom's modern Death Metal scene is increasingly getting attention from metalheads, new and old alike.  AGELESS SUMMONING of Edinburg, Scotland is one of these many upcoming bands.  Although this group has been around since 2016, they released their first ever full-length album titled "Corrupting the Entempled Plane" quite recently.  By recently, I mean just a few weeks ago on July 21st.  After listening to this debut album from AGELESS SUMMONING, I have come to three conclusions: it's dark.  It's haunting.  And more importantly, it's one heck of a Death Metal album.

From start to finish, AGELESS SUMMONING plays a style of Death Metal that sounds to be heavily influenced by the legendary American band MORBID ANGEL.  The opening track "Usurper of the Void" shows drummer Hamish Mackintosh's skill in delivering smooth, consistent, and heavy double bass kick patterns.  As for the vocals, Ali Lauder takes on a deep guttural tone, without going any higher than a menacing growl.  The guitar riffs-courtesy of Gregg Cowell and Rory Strachan-vary in style and speed.  At times, they're very shredding in a rhythm not unlike Thrash Metal, which we see in the second track "Descent From The Infinite." A good Death Metal album, in my opinion, will have strong elements of Thrash Metal.  However, on some songs like "Epoch of Souls" and "Encarnate Nothingness," the band sounds groovier with undertones of PANTERA.  "Towards the Fractal Absolute" is arguably the fastest track on the album, as it's a finely created fusion of Thrash Metal-style drumming and guitar shredding.  It is also worth noting, as shown on the extremely short ninth track "Invocation," that AGELESS SUMMONING is not afraid to add a dash of synthesized experimentation.  In a way, this instrumental track bridges the gap between old-school Death Metal and modern Death Metal.  To conclude the group's very first album, "Salvation of Ash" merges everything they accomplished in their previous tracks-without the preceding instrumental track-and does it perfectly in a little over 7 minutes.

"Corrupting the Entempled Plane'' is a fantastic start to AGELESS SUMMONING's discography.  With layers upon layers of heavy Death Metal, along with Thrash and Groove Metal influences, it is sure to leave you breathless and wanting more from the Scottish band.  The production also contributes to the excellent sound of the record, as none of the vocals or instruments sound muffled or messy.  Don't miss out on "Corrupting the Entempled Plane." It will be disappointing if you do.
