After Evolution - War Of The Worlds album cover

AFTER EVOLUTION are most known for being a modern metal fourpiece, originally from the Czech Republic. Since their formation in 2013, they have gone from strength to strength in the music industry. They released their debut studio album "Threnodies" three years later in 2016, before revealing "War of the Worlds" in 2017. This track would be included in AFTER EVOLUTION's second album release of the same name, which was revealed on June 17th, 2022, via WormHoleDeath Productions.

The first track is the title single "War of the Worlds", which starts off well with a thundering guitar riff, before Nikolette Olšáková's beautiful vocals kick in; complimenting the melody perfectly. The track is intriguing from start to end, with AFTER EVOLUTION constantly changing things up and keeping it fresh throughout. "The Path" is up next, which begins with a slower version of a SYSTEM OF A DOWN type riff. Unfortunately, that is the only redeeming feature here. "Cursed" starts off quite differently, with an emotional piano melody leading the way. From the offset, this track seems as though it should be a future EVANESCENCE song, with Nikolette Olšáková's vocals sounding pretty similar to that of AMY LEE throughout. This is definitely one of the best songs on the album so far! "Librum Fortitudinis/ The Book of Destiny" is quite dramatic sounding, with a striking keyboard introduction paving the way for the rest of the song. The chorus is probably one of the most infectious on the album to date, with it instantly getting stuck in your head from the first listen.

Next up is "Once Upon a Time", which is another slow starter, but eloquently so. However, this is strikingly different from the rest of the songs, with some unclean vocals featured in the midst of the track, adding some variety. "Final Hope" is contrasting yet again, with the use of string instruments throughout the duration of the track. "In The Chains" leaps straight in with Nikolette Olšáková's stunning vocals, instead of instrumentals being the predominant focus. The chorus is instantly memorable, making the song what it is. "Dark Side" is up next, which sounds similar to the last with a hard-hitting chorus just knocking the song right out of the park! "Infinity Flames" contains another mix of clean and unclean vocals, which is just an irresistible combination, whereas "Nothing Left But Pain" contains some fantastic melodies, which are progressive and exciting. The final track on the album is "The Victory". A chilling piano melody starts things off on the right foot before Nikolette Olšáková's striking vocals top things off yet again - a fantastic closer to the album!

This album is decent to say the least. It is not necessarily the most diverse modern metal album I have ever heard, but it still paves the way for better things to come from this band. AFTER EVOLUTION clearly know the musical direction in which they wish to take, and it shows. With a bit of work, I feel like they could be the next best thing - they are definitely on the right track!
