Progressive Technical Death Metal band, ADELON, started as a joke about ten years ago in Sweden. They began by making strange songs and flippant topics; they had many different band names over time. Four years ago, they decided to alter course and became ADELON, releasing four singles between 2022 and 2024. They released their first EP this year, June 21, 2024, “Resurgence”. ADELON takes influences from bands such as OBSCURA, RIVERS OF NIHIL, GOJIRA, and PSYCROPTIC.  

“Fleshless Vertibrate” - This song sounds so deceptively soft at first, but do not let that fool you. The vocal style is a strong, robust Death Metal style. The added bits and pieces of technical sound throughout add a nuanced flavor to the song. Overall, this is song is constructed in a way that does not bore your ears. It is a deftly crafted mix of sounds that marries well together. “Monisme” - As the first notes of the song begin, I am staring off in the distance at the mountain ranges before me, a growling yell breaks the reverie. Bringing to mind an echo that reverberates off the mountaintops in an animalistic way. The powerful musical notes not so different from the way the fog layers through and within itself above the peaks. Yet, nestled within its raging power, is a moment of softer notes, an endearing daydream within a dream. “Crimson Luminescence” - The Death Metal vocals are loud and rich, with touches of Black Metal slightly every once in a while. The music is fast and hard; and it lends a sweeping current to the momentum of the music.

“Cycles” - A name that brings to mind many of life's cycles. Including the one we are experiencing now in my region, the transition from Summer to Fall. Or maybe it brings to mind the cycle of this bands story, how they started as a joke and cycled into a real band. The song itself has some industrial notes to it, a bit technical in nature. It adds a richness to the song that really captures your attention. As well as the fantastic guitar in this song, ranging from the fires of Mount Doom, to pretty like a colorful flower amidst a gray background. “Resurgence” is a great introduction EP to an up-and-coming band, ADELON. Its mix of Progressive Technical Death Metal is evident in multiple ways throughout the album as they deftly step between Metal styles. Each song is slightly different in the way that there is something for everyone on this EP.
