Italian Metal has deep roots in the past, so it’s not a sin to say that the scene is consolidated in the country since the 80s. This is the reason for many good acts coming from Italy in all Metal genres one can think of. Ok, it’s common to have some bands in a point that must evolve, but the greater part is of very good names, especially on extreme Metal tendencies. One good new name is from the quintet ACROSS THE SWARM, here with its first full length, “Invisible Threads”. Brutal and fierce, the formula used on the music is simply the most insane and aggressive Death Metal one can think of, with clear influences from North American trench, especially acts as IMMOLATION, MONSTROSITY and others, but using a personal appeal (and even with Groove parts, as heard on “Every Day is Like a Stab in the Chest”) and a very good technical work. It’s clear that the quintet has potential to do things in a better way in the future, but for now, this release is a brutal kick in the balls! The sonority relies on modern models for the genre: brutal, aggressive, with very good and rough instrumental tunes, and with everything being defined for the sake of the fans’ understanding. No Old School Death Metal fan will complain about such a brutal approach.

Nine mighty brutal pukes of pure Death Metal await the fans, all of them being very good moments (“Intravenous” is just an intro), so be prepared for the assault of “Vertebrae” (very good grunts on this fast and furious song), “Every Day is Like a Stab in the Chest” (as told above, some groove and breakdowns parts are hear, depicting a strong work on bass guitar and drums), “Nothing Left”, “Red Waters” (extreme nasty guitar riffs are presented here), “Scava veloce”, “Dry Eyes” (again some Groove Metal influences can be heard), “Liquefy”, “Until You Bleed” and “Invisible Threads”. Again: ACROSS THE SWARM is that kind of band that has potential to make things even better, but there’s no reason to complain about “Invisible Threads” at all.
