Doom Metal, it seems to be making something of a resurgence. Bands are springing up, slowly, ominously throughout the globe. Today we have a young four-piece from Greece, ACID MAMMOTH. The band have already released two full length albums, a split and a single over their 6 year life span to date. The artwork is trippy! The intergalactic space mammoths can only have been conjured up within a dream.

Opening with "Berserker", the pounding and heavy tracking drives the music straight into your soul. The silky and ethereal vocals of Chris Jr. really adds an extra dimension to the music. The music seems to be styled against BLACK SABBATH and quite simply blew me away for an opening. It is relaxing and engaging in equal measures as each beat and riff reverberates inside of me and takes me away from my normal life. "Psychedelic Wasteland" strips the pace and atmosphere back. The more deliberate stomping rhythm strides us forwards as a listener, the nine-minute track is everything that is good about the genre, with wailing guitars, ambience and that mellow vocal line. Seriously, just put it on, close your eyes and enjoy the journey! Words simply cannot do it justice.

"Ivory Towers" continues on with this steady marching pace, it is quite astounding really; the music record is flowing absolutely seamlessly and I am loving every minute. Whilst it might not be the relentless energy that can be found in other genres, but the melodies, harmonies and smooth guitar breaks are just as enjoyable, and to some even more so.  Strap in kids, we're going on an adventure. "Caravan" is an 11 minute journey through the hazy and mellow music of the album's titular track. This track is absolutely superb, I can't think of anything better to put on after a long day at work to really just unwind and let all of the stresses flow out. "Black Dust" is a melodic finale that all albums really should have. Everything just fits and moulds together in perfect unison, everyone bouncing off of each other with effortless synchronicity that really sees out the album in a memorable and stylish fashion.

What. An. Album. I have re fallen in love with Doom / Stoner Metal. There are ways to do music, every band is different with each stamping their own mark on their releases. But this has to be one of the best albums and reviews that I have done since starting with Metal Temple. Absolutely outstanding.
