Rebirthless
Accu§er
ACCU§ER hailing from Siegen, Germany were formed in 1986. They started as a Thrash Metal band an were active until 2004. After a restart in 2008, their sound is more a mixture of Thrash and Groove Metal. Altogether, they released two EPs and now their 13th full-length album. “Rebirthless“ was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Martin Buchwalter (DESTRUCTION; ELVENKING; TANKARD) at Gernhardt Studio. The album has a length of about 37 minutes, and it was released via German Metal specialists MDD Records. The album starts frantic with the opening track “Violent Vanity”. It is a traditional Thrash Metal track with tight guitar riffing at insane pace, plenty of aggression, and growling vocals which are around the deep to medium end of the guttural range. The break is introduced by thunderous guitar riffs at measured tempo, leading into a lead guitar solo with spine-chilling melodies. “Violent Vanity” has been released as video, and the YouTube link is provided below. “Ghost Of Disease” keeps going with the pace and aggression, especially during the verse parts. The vocals are more versatile, and clean vocals are added for the chorus parts. The chorus parts are almost anthemic with a sing-along chorus line. The track has a bit more complex textures, as there are many twists and turns in tempo and rhythm. The lead guitar solo is two-parted and both parts are very contributing to the track.
The title song “Rebirthless” maintains the pace of the opening tracks. The riffs are punishing, and they are supported by crushing basslines. The vocals are harsh, but slightly higher pitched compared to the preceding tracks. There are a few mid-tempo parts added to the track. The break offers an extended lead guitar solo, and this one is among the highlights of the track. “Painted Cruelty” starts with traditional Thrash Metal riffing at a measured tempo and a head-banging rhythm, leading into the verse part. The vocals remain harsh and are slightly below the medium end of the vocal range. The verse parts seamlessly transition into the simple and direct chorus parts. The break opening for the lead guitar solo maintains the pace of the verse/chorus parts, and the solo is once again very contributing. “Painted Cruelty” is a head-banger from the start to the very end. “Faded Remorse” raises the heat and the tempo. It is a fast track but with some subtle twists towards mid-tempo. The guitar riffing introduces a lot more grooves compared to the previous tracks. While the verse parts are direct and aggressive at blistering pace, the chorus parts are more melodic at a slightly slower tempo. “When Desperation Scorns” has a powerful start with thunderous riffs and strong basslines, leading into a mid-tempo verse part with tight guitar riffs. The riffing is punishing during the bridge leading into the mid-tempo chorus part. There is an extended break with another very contributing lead guitar solo, which is the highlight of the track.
“Fear Denied” starts with flesh-ripping guitar riffing at crazy pace, leading into a mixture of a mid-tempo/fast verse part. The riffing is devastating throughout, and the track utilizes every pace that is between mid-tempo and blisteringly fast. The break is introduced by thunderous riffs accompanied by crunching basslines leading into a first lead guitar solo. There is a second extended solo, which has a few groovy vibes. Altogether, the track has a chilling melodic framework. “Spiritual Recipients” is a mid-tempo Thrash attack in the best TESTAMENT tradition in terms of the riffing and the vocals. The track has many rhythm changes anywhere between measured tempo and mid-tempo. The melodies are grim, and the aggression level is kept high. “Spiritual Recipients” is one of my favourite tracks. The album finishes with “Damned By The Flood”. After a guitar-driven introductory part, the song transitions into a mid-tempo verse part with punishing riffs. The chorus part has blood-freezing melodies at a measured tempo. The break is played at mid-tempo and introduces another excellent extended lead guitar solo. “Damned By The Flood” is one of the highlights and the best possible way to finish the album.
ACCU§ER deliver a very good Thrash Metal album. “Rebirthless“ contains the best elements of traditional Thrash Metal and adds modern twists. Driven by cool guitar riffs and excellent lead guitar solos, all songs have a good versatility indicating good songwriting. The vocals keep the sound very well together. The album is well produced. Thrash Metal fans will be delighted with the new album of ACCU§ER and hope for some devastating live shows in 2025.
