ABYSSAL ASCENDANT is a Death Metal band from France, created in September 2012 by Fanny and Florent. Using a sequencer to build the drums parts, but lacking experience, they called Sebastien for help. He joined them a couple of months later and took care of the drums with appropriate skills and software. In the end of October 2013, they welcomed Raùl at the drums. The band does not claim to be original but aims to keep playing a multi influenced Death Metal, from the 80′s to nowadays. Influenced by bands like MORBID ANGEL, CANNIBAL CORPSE, NILE, IMMOLATION and other monuments, their lore is based on H.P. Lovecraft and peers' universe: the great old ones, their spawns, the abominations (finally) taking over mankind.
"Unleashing The Outer Plagues" is their debut album, and you better not be a scary person otherwise you will shit on your pants listening to this monstrous record. The opening track "Procession" starts with gloomy sounds from a cavern that give way to swarm of violent riffs and speedy drums full of guttural voices. Accompanied by bells from burning churches, this track will provoke you to destroy all things surround you, including you family members. So you better listen to it alone.
Want some more? Head on and play the second track "Down to the Abyss". Florent will welcome you with his demoniac voice accompanied by dark screaming from tortured prisoners. Composed by short stops, this song is a bridge between the others that allow you to breathe. On the contrary, "Interdimensional Predation" marks on of the most violent and speedy part of the album, and in my opinion, the highlight of it. The good work on the drums and guitars, make you enjoy this infernal composition from French trio. The next track "Nightmarish Depths of The Outer Abomination" starting with a retro keyboard that reminds to the 80´s, is another paving roller created to kill.
The machine-gun-drums won't let you breathe till the song ends. The guitar distortions and crazy voices give to the song that insane and mad point sound that distinguishes the band. Summing up, the whole album has a blasting and consistent sound dedicated to those who enjoy the extreme Death Metal. Improvable points are the production, which results a bit thick. With a better fix would enrich the album. Anyway, "Unleashing The Outer Plagues" is a solid album from a youth band that points to improve their sound as they keep working. Don´t miss them on their French tour next March.
