Absolute Darkness - Future Imperfect album cover

Hello Metal-Temple. A few weeks ago I took part in the 70000 tons of metal alongside Ron Dorn. Upon learning that I write metal reviews, he gave me a copy of his debut album "Future Imperfect" from ABSOLUTE DARKNESS. The band, hailing from San Francisco, California, are giving us some old school dark Death/Trash Metal sound with this 38 minute album. With some engaged songs about politics and social issues, they have decided to hit really hard with this first record.

The lyrics of "World In Disarray" seems to be directed at the actual political situation in the United States. With a dark tone and a heavy sound, they hit hard right off the start. The riffs are well executed and the vocal work is deep and thought through, but the production value does diminish the effect. Throughout the entire album I felt like the only issue was in the quality of the sound.

"Betrayal" is a faster paced piece, but it still dives down into the dark tones. If we get be past the quality, the sound is gripping and delivers some great old school Death Metal riffs. Ron uses a devilish tone throughout the album and definitely sets the mood. He certainly has a unique voice, which is what I love to hear. This is the way to be noticed for sure.

Right at the start of "Barricaded In" you are treated to a great hook. There is a great rhythm in this song, and the apocalyptic nature of the whole album brings out a powerful message; one that is carried over in "On My Way To Death". We are getting hit in the face by hard truth with this album.

"H2 Oblivion", "Truth Is Dead" and "2029" finishes the album with a bang, with everything going to hell, the apocalypse being upon us. After going through politic suicide and social implosion, every one is f***, as they say. "2029" shall be our final hour in this possible "Future Imperfect".

I definitely enjoyed this album, but it would have hit even harder if the sound was clearer. Maybe it is what they were looking for, but I didn't feel like it was intentional. The powerful message of the lyrics isn't lost in the low quality though. "Future Imperfect" by ABSOLUTE DARKNESS will probably be a hit or miss with most people, but it was a hit for me, and it is worth taking an interest in the this band's future releases.
