Hyper-Death
Aabode

I am a sucker for some good Industrial stuff. I might be brutal like GODFLESH, very Metal like MINISTRY, rather energetic like PITCHSHIFTER, top of the range like NINE INCH NAILS or even more alternative like FOETUS. What they all have in common is that when they write, play and record their songs the make sure that there is a certain kind of structure to their tunes, making them more acceptable for your ears and brains. And still it is a musical genre that is only very interesting for a small group of people, a niche market. What also happens with every band you hear is the use of samples and weird sounds, as to enhance the atmosphere, intensity and feel that the band has intended. After listening a few times it all either really makes sense or you are getting there. That's different with not only every band, but also each song.
Now I've got AABODE blasting to my speakers, and I have to tell you that even after many a listen I can't make head nor tails of what these two individuals are trying to convey, or which messages they are trying to send. The structures that I mentioned in the first paragraph are just about non-existent, the extra noises made sound extremely cheap and the amount of Death Metal that is supposed to accompany the Industrial noises is negligible. That makes this "Hyper-Death" album anything but an easy listen. As this is my first encounter with the band, and I therefore have never heard their 2024 debut album "Neo-Age", I can't comment on how they have progressed since then. AABODE are a French Avant Garde Death Metal band from Nancy, but I will still refer to them as Industrial Chaos. In the three years of their existence they have mastered the act of confusing the listener of their music to the nth degree.
There are some good ideas on "Hyper-Death", but unfortunately, they haven't been translated into proper songs or structures. Plus, there is absolutely not any kind of emotion palpable or even noticeable throughout the whole album. AABODE might have a record contract, but I have a sneaky feeling that the only people that will actually enjoy what the 41 minutes of this album are bringing will be those who have a brain or mindset that is as scrambled or disorientated as what these guys dare to call music. I can only conclude that either "Hyper-Death" goes above my thinking capacities, or that it is just not very good from start to finish. I know that in my brain I opt for the latter.
