It's the last touring leg of the
"Silence In The Snow" album cycle and the almighty
TRIVIUM are returning to bigger venues in their favourite cities to go out with a bang and heavier than ever.
TRIVIUM have toured relentlessly with this album and it has certainly paid off in fan praise. Supporting them on tour are
SHVPES - who certainly know how to get a crowd pumped up - and
SIKTH who dominate in a truly unique way.
First on are SHVPES, a band full of energy and promise, who have the large venue almost full. It is a hard job for an opening band to impress tough crowds - especially considering some of the bands that are due to go on after them, but this is no issue, for SHVPES know that roaring vocals and loud guitars will prove that they've earned their place on the stage. Leading them is Griffin Dickinson who is easily one of the most energetic vocalists on stage, getting the crowd excited and winning over new fans instantly. Large pits are opening up amidst a headbanging crowd and it's easy to see that the audience are 'head over heels' for the group.
Second on the bill are Metal collective SIKTH. It is near impossible to describe SIKTH's sound, but the easiest way to explain it is to witness their pure ferocity live. "Philistine Philosophies" opens their set and has everyone headbanging; it's catchy and heavy, what's there to hate?
Songs such as "Pussyfoot" follow suit and have the old school fans of the band heading into the pit immediately. The contrast between dual vocalists Mikee Goodman and Joe Rosser is impeccable and it's hard to give the band any criticism for they've simply blown everyone away, as usual.
Finally the headliners enter the stage; the almighty TRIVIUM, who have a huge crowd awaiting their mighty return. Tonight's setlist is comprised mostly of tracks from "Ascendency" and "In Waves", which pleases fans in terms of heaviness and nostalgia; TRIVIUM knows that their fans want to hear the songs they love, but they will plug newer stuff into it, and that's the way all bands should do it.
New drummer Alex Bent is settling into the band well, no faults at all, and this is probably one of the best drummers the band has had in terms of live chemistry. It seems that TRIVIUM are truly at their peak right now and they only seem to be getting higher. Vocalist Matt Heafy has seemed to fully recover from his vocal issues and is now sounding a lot more confident and powerful and is back to performing older tracks.
TRIVIUM have spent so much time touring for this album that they seem to have become closer as a band in terms of chemistry; appearing to be a lot happier on stage and sounding better than ever; even the crowd thinks so too. Hopefully the band will keep on bringing out even better albums than their last.
