*Photography: Sharon ShapiraI rushed from work to get home as quickly as possible, not to get late to the show. 4 absolutely amazing local bands, is a night I didn't want to miss, the show took place in the well known Gagarin club in Tel-aviv, at the 23th of July. Surprisingly, the show was listed for 7pm, I don't remember myself going to a show before sunset.
The first on stage was COMA7, I've known this band for a while, and they're standing out with their dedication to the music and character, defined as a energetic, crazy, groovy, heavy Post-Hard Core with Alternative touch.
Although, in a past show they weren't in shape at all, tonight they had definitely broke my disappointment to pieces I had from the last time. The huge amount of energy that filled the air was overwhelming and jumpy, despite the fact that there wasn't many in the crowd, but they'd just crashed the stage, those who was present couldn't stay indifferent.
The charismatic and interactive performance by the lead singer Shimon Miterany was outstanding and drifting, he draw the audience to jump and to get crazy as he screams on to of his lungs. The jumpy and groovy character of Dan Duhovic was energetic as usual, he just couldn't resist the opportunity to jump off the stage in to the moshpit with the crowd, soon enough Shimon Miterany and the lead guitarist Ehud Hoofien had joined him to the pit.
It was a show to remember for those who seen
COMA7 for the first time, and a heartwarming feeling for me, it's good to see them back in shape!
The next band to get up on the stage is ADAMAS, I've heard a lot about this band but I didn't have a chance to see them live before. Pure MetalCore from Tel-Aviv, I have to say that I am not a fan of this type of genre, but still there are some bands that are very appreciated, in my opinion, in what they do, because they do it very well despite my big dislike toward the genre.
ADAMAS is a good band in fact I did like many parts of their show, very accurate performance, energetic and heavy, Metal-Core by the book. The guitar performance by Amit Bachar and Boaz Goldstein is good, the bass played Ilay Bernstein is groovy but heavy.
Nir Leberstein on drums, was replaced by Vladi Agaronov, very talented and killer drummer. Handled very well in this performance, like he has been playing the songs for a while.
The cherry on the top, toward the vocals performed by Orel Levy I have many opinions, it's hard to criticize his abilities, because of his heavy vocals, screaming and growls are very good. I enjoyed personally at this point, up until he got to the clean vocals. Generally, people who connect and like Metal-Core might like this clean performance as well, not all of the Metal-Core bands use clean vocals, it's not necessarily to have clean and heavy vocals in this genre, and if you already have, usually it's different role for different people, simply because it's hard to perform two very contrast vocals at the same song.
All in all, this issue is standing out so badly, at the clean part, the band turns from a badass heavy MetalCore, to a weeping girl. As I said before, it's hard for me to criticize this band, because it is good, all of the members, one by one are good musicians but the weak link here is the clean vocal performance. Separately, it's not bad at all, but something is not working for me as it is performed on the stage.
It's about a time to crash some bones with some good Old School Thrash Metal. It's not my first time to hear SINNERY on stage. despite their young age, their musical development occurs quickly from show to show.
One of their band members, Idan Kringel is on army service and couldn't be present on past few shows, but it didn't stop SINNERY from performing. Tonight, Niv Zelser took the lead guitar part and dealt with this performance perfectly. Few words about this guy, his contribution to the scene is enormous, despite his young are. His guitar great collection of guitars and the willing to help and perform, saved few shows.
One of the unique characters in this band, is the groovy base lines performed by Ron Barzilai, his jazz influence contributes to the bands tune by making it more complex, compare to what we used to expect from Thrash Metal.
In the minute Alon Karnieli decided to put his guitar aside and take over the mic, my curiosity and attention grew high. Alon is a good singer and he's good with the rhythm guitar. Though, good is not enough, apparently he is much better with a mic only.
The first few lines of the "Drag The Waters" by PANTERA cover has shocked me. Although, in general, the cover wasn't preformed very well and was sloppy. Alon showed his true talent while performing side by side with Aharon Ragoza, lead singer of SHREDHEAD.
To close up the show, the last ones was the legendary SHREDHEAD, this band has a rich history, performing abroad and making a name for Israel, very respectful and hard working band, but for some reason I just couldn't enjoy their show as I expected. Yes, they're heavy, brutal, bone crushing Death/Thrash Metal, but something stops me. The excited crowd can say otherwise, but for me it smells a little bit plain and obvious, I think they could do better.
Few final words about the event, there wasn't many who showed up, but enough to make a good atmosphere and demonstrate some support towards your local bands. But I think that there could be more, for me it was a show to remember, for those who didn't show up, missed a killed show, from the beginning to the last second!
