Well, a day as hot as hell in this so called wonderful town, and an afternoon hot in the same way.
But even this hot weather wasn't a problem for those who wanted to see MASTERPLAN playing on the city again, and on this time, having the home based quartet UNMASKED BRAINS with them.
The venue started to receive a good pubic, and before the show started, MASTERPLAN's members received their fans for a Meet & Greet. Obviously, it was a very good time, because the guys were gentle and showed extreme empathy for their fans, talking and autographing albums, and taking pics with the fans.
As the Meet & Greet was finished, UNMASKED BRAINS entered the stage and unleashed a perfect show, having a great sound quality.
The band's attitude on the stage was perfect, always moving and inciting the public to scream and clap their hands. Using their themed clothes, Reinaldo Leal (lead vocals, guitar), LGC (lead guitars), Denner Campolina (bass) and Élcio Pineschi (drums) where really insane and at total force, spewing forth great amounts of energy.
UNMASKED BRAINS plays what we call "All Metal", a mix of all Metal styles influences, with emphasis on a classic Thrash Metal way with many and intricate influences, as songs like
"Little God Ivory" or
"Lost Control", from their first album,
"Machina", can proof (and you can download it for free on their homepage:
http://www.unmaskedbrains.com). But of course one of the greatest moments of the show was when
Reinaldo dedicated the song
"Corrupt" to the traditional families and some religious evangelists from here (I was thinking he was going to tell them to look for a dick, as many of my compatriots did some months ago), and on the end, when the song "A Máquina" was dedicated to
Marinaldo Couve, the author of it.
They were hailed by the public, and to be honest: to a public that's not used to their music.
Setlist:
1. Numbers
2. Little God Ivory
3. Corrupt
4. Controversies of the War
5. (Half)
6. The New Order of Disorder
7. Lost Control
8. Cloistered Life
9. A Máquina
Some time passed, and the public become anxious for the name of the night, and some minutes after 21 O'clock, MASTERPLAN entered the stage using "Per Aspera Ad Astra" as an intro, and them, they unleashed "Enlighten Me".
After 12 years, they were back to Rio de Janeiro once more.
Roland Grapow (guitars), Rick Altzi (vocals), Axel Mackenrott (keyboards), Jari Kainulainen (bass), and Kevin Kott (drums, because Martin is on tour with CRADLE OF FILTH at that time) came, saw and conquered. And if someone on the house wasn't a fan of them until this night, of course he/she came to be from this show and beyond.
And the band kept doing an extremely good show, promoting both "Novum Initium" (their latest studio album) and "Keep Your Dream aLive" (their newest release, a CD and DVD package), and to be honest, the band made my old Metallian heart beat with happiness on songs as "Spirit Never Die" (I sang it out loud with all my lungs), the excellent "Wounds" and "I'm Not Afraid" (both songs played alive for the first time since 2008/08/08), but songs from "Novum Initium" were played as well, as "Keep Your Dream Alive" and "Black Night of Magic".
Obviously, Roland was great on his riffs and solos (he is a truly guitar hero, because he need not to shred notes at light speed to create very good songs), and interact with sympathy with the public, as Jari and Axel play their parts in very good shape all the time, smiling and helping to ignite the public. Kevin seems to have steel in his arms and feet, due the energy and force he uses to play his drum kit. But I must state that Rick sings in a wonderful way, both his material and from previous vocalists, as he has great communication with the public and great attitude on stage.
They played as well a version for
HELLOWEEN's
"The Chance", that they do not play since 2003/10/04), and the show ended. But they came back for some more songs, but they played some parts from a Brazilian song called
"Garota de Ipanema" (a well known song from
Tom Jobim and
Vinícius de Moraes) and
"Copacabana" from
Barry Manilow. But they played their hymn
"Kind Hearted Light" and
"Crawling From Hell", and until the end, some solo from each musician and some parts from
"Smoke on the Water" and
"Future World". And the public present at the venue hailed them as they deserve.
