It is Monday and it is really hot. I am sitting here and thinking of a way to spend my time. While my thoughts are reaching a dead end, the phone rings and it is the owner of Burning Star Records. KINETIC are inviting journalists for a studio report regarding the upcoming release of their brand new album. Since I am a fan of KINETIC and this seemed the perfect solution to my problem I didn't even have any second thoughts and hit the road. I paid a visit to the nearest bus stop and fortunately, I was there on time!
I was the first one to be at the studio, so me along with Savvas (vocals_bass) and Manolis (guitar) sat down and had a small chat about almost everything (from the music industry to the Greek drivers!) while drinking an ice-cold coffee. Only Sakis (Rock Hard's chief editor here in Greece) and Kostas (one of Burning Star's owners) were the next to visit the studio. After some chat we sat down to listen to KINETIC's new work.
Unfortunately, what we listened to was an unfinished version and not even the mixing was over. The vocals were higher, some synths were missing and the guitar leads_solos were absent. As you can easily understand I cannot have a complete view on how exactly the album will sound, but we took a general idea of how the band's style will be. Savvas was kind enough to describe everything regarding the tracks (which one will be shot for a video clip, which one will open the album etc) and was also polite to answer every single question. So the listening session began...

The band's style has changed a bit, but not so much as to confuse the fans. What the band wanted to achieve - and in my opinion they did it - was to broaden their sound while maintaining their unique sound. The new tracks feature both aggression and melody and managed to impress me a bit! Their sound is characterized by its diversity and includes elements ranging from Black and Death to Power and Progressive Metal. Some parts I listened to reminded me of bands like DIMMU BORGIR, TESTAMENT, DREAM THEATER, even PRONG!
What I was curious about was Margarita's (the band's new female singer) voice. I had the chance to listen to KINETIC's previous singer (Mina), but I missed their live show with Margarita. When I first listened to her voice, I was like Wow, cool! Margarita's vocals are a bit different and definitely unique. It is the first time I listen to a female singer and her voice doesn't remind me of someone else's voice! I think we can expect many things from this band! In my humble opinion, it is one of the best Greek Metal bands and they will prove it at this year's Rockwave Festival! Be sure not to miss them!
Below is a short interview with Savvas, where he answers some of my questions regarding the new album:
What were your intentions when writing the tracks for your new album?
- We had nothing specific in our mind when we started processing our new material, 1 ? years ago... Just to write our new material and to find a new label. Having the first song ready a new idea was born... Hey, guys, why don't we try to get the band to the limits? The first thought was to have a session member to make a clear and melodic voice together with my raspy one and to create some parts on keyboards, just to see what will happen. Trying some voices at studio during the rehearsals, we found the idea provocative enough so we decided to have a separate member for each instrument. So, after some changes and investigations Margaret Staikou is now our female vocalist and Vaggelis Kakarougas our keyboard player. Keeping the main base in our music, we tried to make it more nightmarish, more aggressive and more melodic at points. The result was a brand new style for us something we never expected from the band!

How can you describe your new style?
- We could describe it as melodic - aggressive Death / Thrash without being exact with this characterization... It is a very simple and a very complex mix.
If you had to compare your new album to your previous one, what differences would you mention?
- Hmmm... many! We speak about a totally different thing and the fans that have our first album will be excited with band's progress. We are a six-member band now, including female vocals and keyboards, two separate instruments that were totally missing from The Chains... (band's debut album). The same time we gave a good Hi level to the aggressive character of our music without loosing the sense of melody. We are very curious if this mew mix will be accepted from the fans. In any case, we gave our best for this recording and I dare say we feel proud of making it!
Is there a concept behind this album?
- No, just a basic idea. Hate. The strongest emotion that a human being can feel. The element that can change everyone, that can make him forget even his basic human elements and it is so intent nowadays. And that is the way we gave the album its title;
Corrosion.
Are you planning to shoot any videos clips?
- Yes, next days we will start filming the first video-clip for the song titled Venturing Hi And Low. If things go well we will make another one after some months.
What can we expect from your new album?
-...Just hear it and enjoy it. It is made for you and us!
