Saturday night and I was ill; but that couldn't stop me from paying a visit to the Sin City club to attend FALLEN WITHIN's live release party for their debut album Intoxicated. The night though, didn't start very well since there was at least one hour delay for the doors to open (and from what I noticed the event was not well organized in general). And it turned out that SCREAMINAL never showed up in the end…
Anyway, after we entered the club, the first band to hit the stage was VIOLENT DISEASE. Young kids that didn't seem to feel comfortable on stage. Almost no communication with the audience, weak stage presence and some mistakes were things that unfortunately buried the band. Their modern melodic Death Metal_Metalcore style was not bad, but surely nothing I heard for the first time. They played their material, as well as two covers, one from OTEP and LAMB OF GOD's Black Label, which I must admit was performed really well.
After VIOLENT DISEASE there was a happening, where three people had to accept a beer drinking challenge. Whoever would drink his beer faster would win a FALLEN WITHIN t-shirt and CD. And hell yeah we had a winner!
The next band was TOTAL RIOT, a band that kind of fucked up my brain. The band seemed that it wasn't well prepared since I counted many mistakes, but their young age enthusiasm didn't seem to bother about such stuff. Their music is something between SEPULTURA, SOULFLY and MACHINE HEAD with the use of samples and bongos that enhanced their sound. The fact is that these guys have a really good stage presence jumping around all the time, something we unfortunately couldn't fully witness on Sin City's small stage. The most unfortunate moment of their set was the cover of HAUNTED's D.O.A., which they literally killed. I really couldn't understand if it was really a cover or something that sounds like the specific song.
The last band of that night, and the one that had organized this release party, was FALLEN WITHIN. I had the chance to listen to their new album a while ago and even though I wasn't excited by their melodic Death Metal, I wanted to see how they do on stage. One thing I have to admit is that at least the band is pretty tight on stage and they were surely well prepared playing their songs with precision. The guys were also pretty energetic banging their heads and delivering the goods the best they could in order to make the crowd have a good time. One thing I didn't understand is why their set's end came out of the blue. I mean, me and my friend were looking at each other trying to realize if they were going to play more or we had to leave. Well, the lights went on and we had to be going…
Anyway, to be honest it was not one of the best shows I have ever been, not even close, but what the fuck, it was a live Metal show on a Saturday night.
