A warm afternoon waited for us all, and the Day Of The Dead here in Brazil (in a more Christian way. No celebration at all, just eternal mourning for the loved ones) was the date for ANVIL first show in Rio the Janeiro lands, having a good opening act, the native band STATIK MAJIK. It's another fine work from Blog n' Roll Producoes here in Brazil.

Before the shows, occurred a Meet N' Greet with ANVIL, showing that besides they're an important band for Metal's history, they're kind and very humble, autographing CDs, taking pictures with fans and talking with them a lot, enjoying a good time.

At the right time, 7 o'clock, the power trio Statik Majik got on the stage and started their show.

I could see that they're at a high level, showing that the international experience got by playing at some South American countries and European ones could do for a band. They were comfy at the stage, having a good attitude and always with good communication with the public.

The show marked the release of "Wrath of Mind", their new album, from where came songs as "God in the Mirror", "Acid Reign", "Utopia Sunrise", and during "Drowning in Despair", music from the video and first Single of the album, the public became insane, singing with the band and banging their heads. But they played only an old song, "Shadows of Hope" (from 2010 album, "Stoned on Musik"), as well as a BLACK SABBATH cover, "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", being saluted by the public. And an emotional fact that occurred there: a young fan, 17 years old, brought the new STATIK MAJIK CD and asked the band to autograph it. And this was his first show, as he told me "I couldn't believe that a wonderful band like this existed here in Brazil", and these kind of things that make this writer a happy man.

STATIK MAJIK Setlist:

1. God in the Mirror
2. Drowning in Despair
3. Acid Reign
4. Slaves of Greed
5. Utopia Sunrise
6. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (Black Sabbath Cover)
7. Shadows of Hope

Then, the hour long awaited for many generations of Metalheads came: the Canadian trio, ANVIL, was at the stage here in Rio de Janeiro for the first time.

It's incredible to see that time did not pass for Steve "Lips" and Robb Reiner, as well for Sal Italiano, the bassist. They did a show perfect in all aspects, with tons of pure energy, as I could see they're in perfect form, in some ways that younger bands aren't, and mind you all: they didn't use some modern technology improvement, just drums, guitars, bass and vocals. And that's enough for a good band.

And another astonishing fact is that ANVIL don't refuse to play songs from their new albums, like some old dinosaurs are doing nowadays, as "Hope in Hell", "Eat Your Words" and "Through With You", from "Hope in Hell" album, as well as "Swing Thing" and "On Fire" from "Juggernaut of Justice", but they played some old hymns, their heirloom, as "Mothra", "666", "School Love", and "Badass Rock'n'Roll". There was a drum solo from Robb (this Guy is really a phenomena in the drums, no doubt abou it!), and in some moment, Lips played his Flying V using a vibrator, as well as speaks through the guitar's humbucking (literally)"

Good mood above all!

And when they played "Metal On Metal", sung by everyone in the house, Teatro Odisséia almost felt to the ground, and the band left the stage.

Was the show over?

No way. They returned to the stage using shirts from Brazilian National Soccer Team, and almost made all of us have a massive heart attack with "Forged in Fire", and ended with "Running".

Another fine show that Blog n'Roll Produções brought to us all, but it's somewhat strange that the public paid to see two bands, but the greater part of them only entered the house when ANVIL was on the stage, playing the third or fourth song.

I really think that it's a kind of Money loss… A strange habit, indeed.
