VOIVODhas tappedDominic "Rocky" Larocheto play bass for the band following the departure ofJean-Yves Thériault(a.k.a.Blacky).Laroche, who has previously performed with blues musicianSteve Hill, made his live debut withVOIVODon July 12 atFestival Jonquière En Musiquein the group's former hometown of Jonquière, Quebec, Canada.

Prior toVOIVOD's performance atFestival Jonquière En Musique,Thériault(who did not attend the event), along with fellow foundingVOIVODmembersDenis Bélanger(a.k.a.Snake; vocals),Michel Langevin(a.k.a.Away; drums) and the band's late guitaristDenis D'Amour(a.k.a.Piggy), were honored as international ambassadors of La Ville de Saguenay (of which Jonquière is a suburb) and will have their names inscribed on a plaque describing the history of the group, to be installed permanently at the Nikitoutagan Square in Jonquière.

Langevinreassured fans thatVOIVODwill continue despite the departure ofThériault.

"Dominic Larochewill play with us at theHeavy Montrealfestival withMETALLICAon August 9, and then we will write a new album, which will probably be released next year," he said. "In the meantime, we will continue playing shows."

VOIVODon July 11 released a statement claiming thatBlacky"decided to leave the band for his own personal reasons."

Thériaultplayed his first show withVOIVODin 17 years in June 2008 in front of 22,500 fans as part of theHeavy MTLfestival at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He spent the last few years touring with the band in addition to performing onVOIVOD's latest studio album,"Target Earth", which came out on January 22, 2013 via the group's own company,Iron Gang Factory, andCentury Media.

DuringBlacky's time away fromVOIVOD, the band recorded and performed withEric ForrestandJason Newsted(METALLICA,FLOTSAM AND JETSAM).
