Written by guitarist Jimmy Hiltula and drummer Dave Sundburg, theBlack Lotusstory began in May at Leon Music Studios outside Karlstad, Sweden, with Rikard Lofgren and Gustav Ydenius, along with Cameron Webb (Motorhead, Megadeth) on board to mix.

Vocalist Liv Jagrell discusses the origin of the title: "The album titleBlack Lotuscame up after a couple songs were already written. They seemed to have darker touch than before and somehowBlack Lotussummed that feeling up. Lyric-wise, the inspiration comes from all kinds of places. Mostly personal struggles but also politics and fiction".
