What started out in the mid-eighties, in Rockland and Westchester NY, as a bunch of friends getting together to go to music shows at NY city venues such as: CBGB's, Lamour's, The Ritz, Palladium, A7 and local haunts such as Cheers, Blondies, Manhattans, Zazeens and Streets, would later become an organized music club with a dedicated mission of supporting the live music scene. Fast forward to today and you will find a patch insignia of NYDM (New York Death Militia) worn proudly on back-patch-wearing music enthusiasts in respective chapters spanning 40 U.S. states and 12 countries.

NYDM is an international music club founded and established in NY in 2003. Its brethren are made of men and women of all walks of life; musicians, promoters, music venue owners, radio station DJ's and owners, photographers, magazine owners, music teachers and music fans. Since its inception, the club prides itself with supporting, promoting and growing the "underground" music scene. They organize, produce, promote and attend music events. The club also supports local and national charities, raising funds with their music shows. NYDM believes that music is a fundamental vehicle to reach out to communities to provide a forum for like-minded enthusiasts with the same core values.

So, is metal dead? NYDM says a resounding "no way", however, they add we need to continue our diligence as a music community and get back to "old school values" by increasing our focus and support of live music venues and scenes. This is their mission. "There is no greater unifying force than music, particularly in divisive times. Our club is a family with a purpose" says Randell Salmon, NYDM co-founder. He and joint founders Will and Elena Rahmer founded NYDM based on core values of strength, honor, loyalty and respect. It's that simple, yet THAT huge. Beyond the music scene, they recognized communities, by and large, could stand for an injection of these same "old school" values. They were right! The NYDM club network expanded to an international presence by evangelizing these values through the power of music.

NYDM celebrate it's 15 years of being a "patched" organized club. Each member wears their back patch with pride, representing their unity and prolific impact on music scenes throughout the world. They are inviting their members, family, friends and the public to celebrate and join them in support of live music. They will take it back to where it all started, in Rockland County, NY. NYDM will sponsor a three-day music event August 17 ' 19th at the German Masonic Festival Park in Tappan NY. It will be a special occasion for the club as well as the musicians playing it. Members of the band Whiplash acknowledge the nostalgic value of playing this festival as they performed their very first show of their 30-year career sharing the stage with the Friday night festival headliners, the founders of Death Metal genre and historically credited to for being the first Death Metal band, Californian musicians Possessed. Jeff Becerra lead singer of Possessed holds a special place with NYDM as he is long standing president of the club's California and West Coast NYDM chapters.

Jeff Altieri, singer for hardcore/metal crossover band Enrage (hailing from Staten Island, NY) speaks of his excitement in sharing the stage with the incredible line-up, offering: "When I was a kid I practiced my vocal chops mimicking Tony Portaro of Whiplash and making horror videos with Possessed as the background music! I'm in awe to have my band sharing the stage with my heroes!". Returning to the festival, is one of NYDM's consistent favorites, Blood Feast. Newly joining the festival this year is Carnivore A.D., fresh off their European festival tour. Tim McMurtrie (original member of the legendary band M.O.D.) will take the stage with his band Full Scale Riot and hardcore music legends Leeway and Murphy's Law will play opposite nights. Eddie Sutton, singer of Leeway, says "This show is going to be a blast. It's a stacked line-up. Leeway is excited to play Friday! and then there's Murphy's Law headlining Saturday! You can't go wrong with Jimmy and the gang; you know he's going to kill the crowd with his music and jokes". NYDM welcomes a mixed genre of twenty-nine "stand-out" bands of the live music scene to celebrate their 15 years of being an organized music club.
