Barely half a year has passed since the folk metallers of HARPYIE took their fans to the mysterious megalopolis of Knight City with their cover album MINNEWAR, and now the next longplayer is just around the corner. But while the previous album was still futuristic and colourful, the neon-coloured fluorescent lights in East Westphalia (Germany) are switched off for the winter and dim gas lanterns are lit instead.
With their new work BLUTBANN, HARPYIE turn to darker themes again. On a total of 12 tracks, the listener can expect eerily beautiful stories about vampires, murderers and ghosts. It's about love, death and fear, but also about cohesion and overcoming one's own demons. On BLUTBANN we also meet many familiar faces, such as Jack the Ripper, Edgar Alan Poe, the Headless Horseman and the vampire Lestard, known
from "Queen of the Damned". Always accompanied by the powerful and epochal folk metal sound that we have come to expect from the band in recent years, only this time it comes out of the speakers a little more evil and aggressive, in keeping with the theme.
And so the new album of the East Westphalians sounds altogether a bit snottier and rougher, which is not least due to the new instrumentation. Instead of a violin, a hurdy-gurdy is now an integral part of the band. So BLUTBANN has some surprises in store not only for newcomers but also for die-hard HARPYIE fans. With their seventh studio album, HARPYIE consistently continue on their chosen path, but also look back a little to times gone by. On BLUTBANN, the band revives the spirit of 2015's FREAKSHOW, without forgetting the developments of the last few years. Bloody, dark, aggressive! This is what HARPYIE sound like in 2022!
