When it comes to Death Metal and its beginnings, the vast majority of us have a mutual consensus that DEATH started the chain. There's also debate going back and forth between DEATH and POSSESSED. A few might even attribute it to Thrash Metal bands such as SLAYER or EXODUS and among others.

"!.the vast majority of us have a mutual consensus that DEATH started the chain!"

I did think the first time I ran through "Pleasures Of The Flesh", that Death Metal seemingly seemed to sink in with its influences (but it was in 1987, it was close, but definitely not during the crucial sensitive period). I dislike black and white concrete ideas. Fleshing out an entire genre is a huge deal. A founding father like Chuck Schuldiner was quite humble in not accepting such a prestigious honor and had an admirable attitude in which he rejected the popular ascribed notion. According to Schuldiner himself, VENOM might've had something to do with it. It had the raw vicious aggression that enabled fellow listeners to grasp their ideas and take influence without being a mere imitator.

Everything is an accident. It's only noticed when someone points it out. I'm sure BLACK SABBATH weren't like "Hmm! today I think I will invent Heavy Metal". It goes for any genre of music, everything just happens. Life is a mystery and its tendencies give us potential to shape and think about the world we are born into and the constructs that are already in place during the time of our birth and development. A critical and skeptical mind can reach plateaus if he/she uses their reluctance to present to their colleagues and our familiars in a justifiable way.

Blues was literally invented through anguish and despair. Before it moved to guitar, it was purely vocalized during the mid-1910s onward to the 1920s. It was a coping mechanism in which "slaves" (as they were called) sang while working in the fields to keep their spirits up. It seems kind of wrong but this vile dehumanizing maltreatment gave birth to one of the more beautiful styles of music. As time goes by, things naturally evolve into something more-or-less which is the natural order of things. You see, if whites didn't devalue blacks, would the Blues have had any hope of being conceived? It probably would've, but perhaps been a lot different than as we have it now (probably credited in another country). Same goes for Death Metal or Heavy Metal or what have you. The cause is indirect which seems more likely than a direct cause. Think about how one thing affects another, it is a chain of events.

I will never say DEATH invented Death Metal; they sculpted it but definitely did not invent it. If you analyze Schuldiner he was an innovative individual. He was exposed to many things and used his experiences to create what he did. He was a crucial figure no doubt.

I always think there's some relatively unknown garage band that might've started Death Metal but never received any credit. Shoot even I think people have stolen my ideas. I created a playlist called "Watch Later" on YouTube back when the feature wasn't available and within several months it became an official décor of the engine and I received no credit. Even McDonalds stole my idea of dipping your French fry in ice cream and eating it like so. When I saw the commercial featuring it several years after my novelty ways of eating I wasn't angered but I stayed hidden. If I was anything like your typical average American I would've filed a lawsuit but I didn't. Maybe Death Metal was born this way who knows. All we do know is bands like VENOM had aggression. This aggression inspired others to use what already existed and mold it into something else. As you see it can be taken in different pathways, in this case both Black and Death Metal from one medium.

Always have an open-mind but not so open that you do what David Vincent did with MORBID ANGEL. Well technically that's an evolution, but not a very good one. Things become enveloped in the norm that people don't take the time to really think behind a concept that is well-adapted in society. I question everything. In order to do this, you must experience despair and isolation to gather your thoughts under turmoil. That's my explanation. If I didn't experience the degree of suffering I did than I would've been your average fool that accepts anything already in the minds of the masses. For example, morons who think Varg Vikernes is an asshole and/or a murderer simply because "official authority reports" say so. There's more than one way to achieve a goal. Despair works for some and social support works for others. We all experience both spectrums but all in all it is encoded in our genes in what we are susceptible to, but even then, we have the ability to shape ourselves. Like Vikernes said, "!the fat can always lose weight, but the ugly will always be ugly".
