Ivory Moon
Italian symphonic metallers IVORY MOON are following the path of metal that combines powerful male vocals and ethereal operatic female vocals with heavy riffing and epic atmospheres and they are doing it pretty well. On a course of a constant improvement the new record, "Dark Time" released via Ulterium Records bears no exception. Metal Temple's Kati and Davide Calisse had an interesting discussion about the band and their brand new record.

Hi, I'm doing great, thanks! I am very excited about the interview and would like to thank you and Metal-Temple.com!
Well, I must say that after so many years together and several line-up changes, I am amazed at how great we have been in keeping our companionship at all times. It would be enough for you to attend one of our rehearsals, to get an impression of our spirit of cooperation. Mostly I am proud that we all feel equal in the band. Each one of us feels that they bring their own unique contribution, both musically and from a personal point of view, and we always make each other feel appreciated. One thing that's great about a band is when you are able to just have a laugh in between songs, this keeps it light as well as fun, and it's crucial if you want to go the long way together. I think Ivory Moon has this. Of course there are times when we may have some disagreements, for example when we were faced with the choice of a lineup change. It is never easy to keep it tactful and show respect to all parties involved. But what's important is that nobody ever take it personal and conflict situations are overcome in a friendly manner in the end. No hard feelings, just hard & heavy playing!
I personally believe Gabriella brought a huge contribution to the band. As much as we do miss Cecilia as a good friend and valuable singer, and it was not easy to replace her, we were pleased to see the enthusiasm Gaby showed since the very beginning. Her energy is different from Cecilia's, I feel she is more focused, centered, it's like she "blends". Her voice as well; in time she has learned to make those subtle adjustments to her style which now matches perfectly our band concept.
I mostly get inspiration from everyday life and events. Nothing has helped me more through tough moments or difficult times of my life, than music. I lean on music as my rock in times of hardship, when facing a loss, or a difficult choice to make. It always begins with a simple melody I can't seem to get off my mind. It starts unconscious but at some point I realize what's going on so I record it. Then I go home and develop my idea. The lyrics of my songs always have something personal about myself and what I'm going through, even though I use many symbols, and at times it is not immediately clear what the message is, but I like to leave space for emotional interpretation as well. It is important that the listener can relate to the lyrics.
Definitely. Picking the songs that will compose an album is never an easy task. There is always a song or two that is left out, because it belongs to a different concept maybe, or doesn't really fit with the other ones. We always consider those songs when starting a new album.
We hope so! That's what keeps us going, our fuel is Live!We believe to be able to in this summer, finger crossed!
We certainly feel honored to be compared to such inspirational bands. We feel we have developed our own unique style but naturally our influences can be noticed in our songwriting. I think that band maturity means being able to combine these with giving the feeling of a personal distinct style at all times.
Actually long story, anyway we are really happy and confident with Spider Rock Promotion, they are a complete combo with Promotion,Label and management. And we are really friends, so work together is a piece of cake!
It is an idea, however, for now we are not planning to do so. Currently our goal is reaching a large audience, which can be done better with English lyrics. But eventually perhaps a song in our native language will give a nice touch to an album, especially sung by Gabriella, after all, Italian is the language of Opera music and we might even decide to incorporate just some lines or sentences in Italian for a start!
It is our dream. I always work with orchestral softwares when composing, but the real deal would be a whole different story. In any case sooner or later I'm gonna do this!
My dream is really easy, I wanna to keep going in music, without any boundaries . I'd love to have always time and inspirations to keep going…just that
Thanks to Metal-Temple.com!!! I'd like to thank all of our fans. Some of them have been following us for years, since we first started and they are our strength and motivation. We really feel their warmth and support while on stage and it is always a blast to be able to have that special relationship with them. So, thank you!!!
