Last night it played host to VON HERTZEN BROTHERS, one of Finland's best Hard Rock acts and they are breaking into the UK gradually. It also hosted London Hard Rock quartet VOODOO SIX who are regular visitors to Southampton. The first thing you notice is an already busy turnout considering it was Wednesday night, what most of us refer to as a school night. Who said Rock was dead?
Opening act VOODOO SIX provided the ideal set that gets the venue moving, dancing and rocking out. Their hard-hitting yet upbeat melodies are enough to make you dance and sing, letting your hair down; these were made up of crucial elements of Hard Rock songs including impressively slick guitar licks and dominant vocals. Their excellent stage presence and infectious energy was so evident that they had fans enjoying themselves from the back as they glugged down the alcohol. An excellent choice to open the night's proceedings.
VON HERTZEN BROTHERS are one of Finland's biggest Hard Rock bands; speaking to fans before this act took to the stage it seems they have been waiting for Finland's answer to BIFFY CLYRO and FOO FIGHTERS to hit the UK for years. Judging from the brilliant turn out and that anticipation for their appearance, there was just some wondering if it was going to be worth the wait? It was worth much more than a wait.
From the moment they made the stage and belted out anthemic single "New Day Rising" followed on by "You Don't Know My Name" there was so much power and energy from the band and their loyal fan base. Their live set showcased the impeccable vocal work provided by all three Von Hertzen Brothers; Mikko, Kie and Jonne. Their set consisted of an eclectic selection of tunes that are grand enough to fill arenas and stadiums; there were classics such as beautiful ballad "Flowers And Rust" to new empowering single "Hold Me Up" where hands flew into the air and smiles spread across everyone's faces, these were personal highlights of the evening since they were performed with such infectious passion that filled the room and hearts of the audience of their magical show. Von Hertzen is German for "from the heart" which was definitely obvious in this show as there was certainly a lot of love in the room.
This enchanting performance from VON HERTZEN BROTHERS was reinforced by Mikko Von Hertzen's natural charisma and cheeky manner as he spoke with the crowd, making the chuckle and laugh with his humorous stage banter. This show was extremely mesmerising that notes about this show were made the next morning as attention was focused purely on their exquisite show.
Their show ended on a more than positive note on the track "Prospect For Escape", judging from the crowd's reactions from start to finish it is unmistakable that they are welcome back to Southampton.
Overall conclusion? Catch VON HERTZEN BROTHERS now while they still continue bring a stadium like atmosphere to smaller venues, it can be guaranteed they will sell out huge arenas in at least a few years time.
