During the 70's, a new style of music, as well as ideology, started growing really fast in the UK. People were creeped out by the extremity of the specific sound. Almost a decade later, the same country gave birth to something that bares the same attitude and is way more extreme than its predecessor. That bastard child was named NAPALM DEATH and it is still spreading the disease 20 years later! Yes, I really wanted to see this for myself…

That's why me and a couple of friends took the long walk towards An Club. The show started a bit out of schedule but that didn't seem to annoy anyone, since every single metalhead was there to have a good time… And so we did! The Greek Grindcore act SLAVEBREED took on the hard role of warming up the crowd. The fact is that it didn't seem so hard after all, since the first moshpits started and people were encouraging towards the band. SLAVEBREED played old, as well as new songs, with the "quote of the night" award going to the band's singer who said the epic "We're going to play a new song now. Not that you'll realize any differences"! Hahahaha! All in all, the band's NASUM meets LENG TCH'E sound was more than enough to earn them some new fans and make some heads bang (and some backs still ache).

With the Athenian act finishing its set, we had to wait some time until the Birmingham Grindcore legends NAPALM DEATH hit the stage. Three years after their last visit here, and nothing has changed. The band delivered a hell of a nice show, with a passionate stage presence that made the whole club dance… deadly! Damn, the whole club was a moshpit! Even if you were in the back, you would still "receive" a couple of elbows in the face, hahaha! That's kind of natural of course, since who can be the good boy when the UK quartet delivers brutal assaults with songs like "From Enslavement To Obliteration", "Mass Appeal Madness", "Persona Non Grata", the all time classic cover "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" (it was real chaos) or "Time Waits For No Slave" from the band's last album. The sound was just decent, but that seemed like a minor flaw compared to the huge performance by the British gods! Each and every one of them was in perfect shape giving 100% of his energy, while Barney was grabbing the chance to say a few words between some songs, trying to remind us that we are strong and independent, no matter what governments are trying to do! A NAPALM DEATH gig is not worth without Barney trying to wake up some sleeping minds…

Authentic, honest, true, non compromising… Only a few of the words that can describe NAPALM DEATH and the Greek audience seems to be aware of them, since An Club was once again full! I don't think that there was even one person that didn't have a good time that Friday night. Let's hope we don't have to wait for three years to see them again!
