Lehmann

Neurasthenia

Sometimes Horror can strike us in the weirdest of ways, however some people would claim that what is awkward isn't really that odd. Yet, when that inelegance comes in charging with robustness, it will open a few eyes along its path. Same was with the Italian NEURASTHENIA, and their new joint release of "Possessed By Your Omen", released via Spider Rock Promotion. Steinmetal spoke with Lehmann, the band's ample vocalist, about the new album, composing of new material, style and future.

Lehmann (Neurasthenia) interview
Hello Lehmann, how have you been? It is good to have you for this interview for Metal Temple.

Hello there! I'm fine thanks and I'm very glad to replay to your interview….

I wonder, why calling yourself Lehmann? It would be interesting to know the reason for the naming.

Ha Ha!! Well, finally somebody is asking me why, it's really simple, because it's my second surname, my complete name is Matteo Grazzini Lehmann, my mother comes from Germany, Berlin

Over the years your band, NEURASTHENIA, has been playing a wicked approach of Thrash Metal in a kind of an horrific presentation. What is the general idea of the themes which you guys present?

Yes, it's true, we like to present our band as a mix of the holds Thrash Metal bands and the new sound from the 2012, during the years we have create our sound which is really important for us, our goal is that the people when talk about us they have to do not call us as a Thrash Metal band, but as a Neurasthenia, whit them sound and them music style….I think that in the new album you will understand of what I'm talking about…

It would be interesting to know your musical influences. I noticed that you have a thing for Bay Area Thrash in the manner of TESTAMNET and some EXODUS antics. Are there are any more influences that might come to mind?

Of course, in the past  me and Neil (the singer, guitar player and co-founder of the band with me) we'd listen and we'd enjoy a lot with these bands, but also, Anthrax, Forbidden, Annihilator, Artillery, Kreator, Destruction, Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Exciter, Exhumed, Flotsam & Jetsam, Over Kill, Agent Steel, Death Angel, Dark Angel, Nuclear Assault, Possessed, Whiplash, and many more….so All of these band have contribute to influence in our music, not only that bands, a lot of people associate us to them because at the and when we record our music and Neil sing on the new song the voice remind to them, but of course it depend from how many Thrash Metal band you know….and now not only Thrash!

Recently you guys made a sort of a re-recording fusion between both of your earlier albums under the name of "Possessed By Your Omen". What is the reason behind the decision to go through with it as the last album was only released three years ago?

Ok, good, this is the best question, usually we are waiting for some interview hoping that somebody will ask us about this….Look, the world is really big, and in this fu°#***$$%% world there are to many bands, and we are a medium Italian reality, but last years we noticed that we was for nothing happy about our past records, because of the promotion, the distribution, productions an so on….so we decided to say "why do we have to waste a lots of good songs?" and even because now we have our own studio, we talk about this with our manager and our management from SPIDER ROCK PROMOTION, and we said to them that are ready to release our best songs with our mood and sound, and they say that this would be a good idea…..so we did it! And now finally, we can be proud not only about our live performance, but even of our productions….and we will continue in this way….it was a challenge for us, and we win!

Throughout the release I noticed that you did a joint venture with a few guest lead guitarists. How crucial was their impact upon the energies of the songs?

Well, of course it will not happen on the new record, but in this we decided to call some good friends like Andrea Mosconi from MOURN IN SILENCE, which is a really kickass band where I'v been playing for many years, and Simone Mularoni from DGM, EPYRIOS and the DOMINATION studio, which is also our guru about the albums production, he is a kind of Italians Andy Sneap….And the last is Gabriele Lazzerini which is a really good solo guitar player, he also came with us during our last Headliner Tour in Russia…

Do you think that their involvement and playing styles went well with the overall atmosphere of your material?

Of course! It's why we choose them for do it….

I noticed that you chose to do a nearly whole new production to a KISS classic. How did you feel about making that remake?

At the first time we did this cover for one compilation from the KISS drummer Eric Carr, and we thought that it would be a great idea to put this on our record…

Is it cool stepping into the shoes of Gene Simmons on the vocals?

Well, I think that Neil did a great job, and his voice is really malleable…I really like it!

Who produced the album? What is the main element in your sound that you believe it to be the most important of all?

We produce this album with SPIDER ROCK PROMOTION which also release this album in digital version. As I said before we record this album in our studio, I'm the engineer, I've recorded, mixed and mastered the album with of course the help of the other guys….and together we find our sound, we work on it during Jan. and Jul. 2012, in the meanwhile I was with Blaze Bayley for his new record and tour…

When will the Metal world be blessed with some new material out of you guys? What is planned forward?

Yeah! The plan now is that, first I have to finish the recording session of my new project, called LEHMANN, which also Neil is involved, in this project I'm the singer and songwriter, so I think it will a really good record, new sound and new music. After that we will start to record the new stuff, the half of the new album is ready….then we will create new music. I think that when it will be come the good season you will receive some news about the release, for now I can only say that in November we will start….

Lehmann I wish to the thank you for your time for this interview for Metal Temple. You show, looks, sound and material has something good in it and I can't wait to hear more out of you guys. Any last words to the readers?
