Khymera - The Greatest Wonder album cover

A musical unease and troubled mind like the mind of Daniele Liverani, never sleeps. From the Rock opera Genius, then to the Progressive Metal newcomers TWINSPIRITS and now on the AOR shores of KHYMERA, Liverani seems to enjoy this Rock musical journey. KHYMERA begun as a studio project with Steve Walsh, the voice of mighty KANSAS himself, handling the vocals on their first self-titled album, walking the Hard Rock and AOR path, the same path they followed on A New Promise (their second album). This time, Dennis Ward (bass player of German rockers PINK CREAM 69) carries on as the leading vocalist (as he did in the band's previous album, A New Promise).

The Greatest Wonder is KHYMERA's third album, with the valuable contribution of Tom and James Martin (HOUSE OF LORDS) on the songwriting part and with the most 'melodic' record company in Europe (Frontiers Records) on their side. Liverani managed to produce a sensual AOR/ Hard Rock album with the sound of the 80s that JOURNEY, HOUSE OF LORDS and FM had.

The first notes from The Greatest Wonder will turn your mind in another direction, but do not let KHYMERA fool you. Ablaze is an instrumental intro and has the same notes as the infamous Ides Of March by IRON MAIDEN (the original song is called Thunderburst by SAMSON, the days that Bruce Dickinson was still their fontman; not many people know that) and then, the major arpeggio keyboard sound comes in to restore the AOR order to your ears with Beautiful Life.

The first thing that I want to mention is the exceptional performance of Dennis Ward on vocals. Ward delivers clean high-pitched notes with warm pain and love that this music needs. This hidden talent came to light, from the PINK CREAM 69 bass-worker and GODIVA's latest album producer, who contributes his well-known bass lines for KHYMERA as well.

The arrangements and the keyboard work from Liverani are top notch for The Greatest Wonder and this particular genre in general.  The fresh guitar air that Tommy Ermoli (TWINSPIRITS) brings, gives KHYMERA the certain strength that mid-tempo Rock songs miss sometimes. Dario Ciccioni on drums is the last of the TWINSPIRITS' crew that joined KHYMERA and they really seem to create a solid Rock union.

The Greatest Wonder keeps many great songs for the AOR/ Hard Rock listener, like Since You Went Away and Love Has Been And Gone; these two are my favorites, that could have the respect of the hit-maker Desmond Child too.  The lyrics may have a lack of originality, for example: Don't know where I'm going/But I sure know where I've been (clearly a BON JOVI or WHITESNAKE tribute?) but still, they speak for love and troubled times.

KHYMERA with their third album can make the breakthrough to the mellow-loving Hard Rock audience. AOR is where every suffered heart seeks for shelter and KHYMERA invite you to experience The Greatest Wonder that is love.
