Trouble in Paradise
Big Red Fire Truck
There are moments when every human being wants to get back to a specific period of time, mainly during their youth. Personally, this writer here always dreams of going back to the 80', to enjoy the Glam Metal and Hard Rock golden age in USA (and to leave Brazil for it, mind you). Those days were happier, and things were lived in intensity, because the fear of an impending nuclear war brought people to enjoy life at its fullest. But even today there are acts inheriting the same intensity and energy of those forms of music of those days, as can be heard on the Australian quartet BIG RED FIRE TRUCK music shown on "Trouble in Paradise", an EP that deserved to be a full length. It's not offensive to say that these guys inherited influences of VAN HALEN, AC/DC, but with the crude melodic appeal of acts as AEROSMITH (in their 80s days), and other acts on such genre.
Basically: their musical work is nasty and melodic, crude and hooking, but with tons of a young and charming energy. The choruses are extremely hard to forget after one single experience on their songs (try such experience during "Trouble in Paradise" and "Psychotropic Thunder"), and everything is spontaneous, wild and seductive. Yes, this EP deserves applauses, because there's the personality of the band's musicians on all the songs. The EP had a very good production, with everything listenable (it's impossible to hear and not understand what's the quartet is about), loud and full of energy, with the right instrumental tunes. It's something mature for a first release, something that is really great, because the full experience on their musical work can be experienced without problems.
The intro "Neon Sunsets" opens the EP, preparing the fans for "Trouble in Paradise", hit-born song that was built upon excellent melodies and a charming chorus (and what good melodic vocals and backing vocals), and after comes "Love Bite", a filthy and crude Rock 'n' Roll in the vein of AC/DC (but with more accessible melodies, and with a very good set of guitar riffs and arrangements). The listeners won't stay stopped due the frantic melodic appeal of "Psychotropic Thunder", a song with tons of accessible energy being unleashed, the same happening on "Miami Skies" (both with solid and very good work on bass guitar and drums). And the closing song, "Hot Summer Nights", is clearly accessible and built for a broader public (and can be aired on radios easily). But again: just an EP isn't enough, really!
BIG RED FIRE TRUCK is a charming new name of the Australian scene, so listen to "Trouble in Paradise" (and pay for your copy of it), and enjoy the ride!
