Ereboros
Ereboros
To begin a new musical work at zero isn't an easy task, even for experienced musicians. Leaving aside the things outside of a new band, there's the problem of detaching the musicians of their pasts, and to create something different of what already exists. Obviously no one can chance what a musician is, but the fusion between different individualities can bring something good. And the Brazilian quartet EREBOROS, of Rio the Janeiro (Brazil) is able to take high flights, as shown on their first EP, "Ereboros". Depicting things: on the band are former members of LAC, ENGINES OF TORTURE, TELLUS TERROR, DEMOLISHMENT, FÓRCEPS, GUTTED SOULS and other acts of Rio de Janeiro's Metal scene, all of them with strong bonds with Death Metal.
B-U-T (it's to pay attention to the following words), it's a different musical work from the bands named above, a form of Death Metal with intricate technical appeal, along with charming subjective Old School Blackened Death Metal melodies in some moments (enriching things, as can be heard on "Ereboros"), or grove parts (some touches of such elements can be heard on "Corruptio Signum"), excellent rhythmic shifts and a different insight on the contrasts between grunts and screams. It's different, but still brutal and catching, so what are you waiting for to dive into it? The production was done by the quartet along the guitarist Caio Mendonça (the same guy who worked with FÓRCEPS, LAC and GRAVE DESECRATOR), creating something modern, defined and brutal, something that can be understood easily, but it's distorted and even disturbing in some moments. It's really a very good work.
For those who know these guys previous work, the expectations were always high, but they overcame anything one could think of. "Ereboros" is a brutal and fast song, with some arrangements with clear Blackened Death Metal orientation, with excellent guitar riffs, solos and arrangements (and excellent ambiences). The same elements can be heard once more on "Corruptio Signum", but with a richer approach in terms of arrangements on the rhythmic parts (with groove parts showing a strong and solid work on bass guitar and drums). "Path of Solomon" was born to become a hit of the band, because the use of slower rhythms and a horror-like ambience created the right feeling for hooks to nail the hearers, even with the technical car on the arrangements (and the grunts of the vocals shows excellent diction, something that's hard to hear on Death Metal). A kaleidoscope between Death Metal and Black Death Metal can be heard on "Blasphemous Era", with refined arrangements and a maelstronic set of guitar riffs. And "Dubium Sapientia Est" can be said as a modern Death Metal song, filled with energy and ambiences (created by the guitars) that are extremely disturbing, but hooking for the hearers.
Obviously, too much can be expected of EREBOROS in the future, but "Ereboros" states that they're on the right path, and deserve to be heard and enjoyed by all extreme Metal fans. Take a bite of it, it won't hurt you:
