Lordi - Screem Writers Guild album cover

Some bands are hard to deal when the fans have narrow minds. No one must fulfill your desires, only yourself, and a band has no compromised in dealing with your thoughts and wishes. A band must be a musical expression of its musicians' ideas, and that's all. Maybe these words can depict why some people can enjoy a good time when dealing with bands that seem to be here to being fun (and in this way, to have fun). That's why some Metalheads can deal with the Finnish quintet LORDI, and as "Screem Writers Guild" will keep such tradition for sure. Their musical work doesn't need extended explanations: it's that accessible and melodic mix between Heavy Metal, Hard Rock and some subjective influences of Pop Rock and Rock 'n' Roll, what becomes a form of music that sometimes sounds aggressive (as heard clearly on "Dead Again Jayne"), on others shows itself more accessible (pay attention to what's depicted on "Thing in the Cage"), but always being coherent with the band's career.

In other words: it's the same way they work, but to the quintet, their usual music is always a very good experience, indeed. Janne Halmkrona and Mana (the band's drummer) get along with Mr. Lordi to take care of the production of the album, leaving the mixing with Ilkka Herkman and the mastering with Pauli Saastamoinen, thus creating a balance between aggressiveness, melodies and sound clarity, but's again what's the band offers to their fans since a long time. Oh, Mr. Lordi signs the artwork and art direction as well.

The fans will note that the album bears references to screen writers in Hollywood horror films from 1920's to 1950's (the artwork is clearly showing this aspect), and some hits can be found on it, as "Dead Again Jayne" (after a cinema-like intro, it becomes an aggressive and sharp song with Thrash Metal-like traits, especially on the guitars, but full of melodic hooks), "Unliving Picture Show" and "Thing in the Cage" (these ones show a more accessible side, using influences of 70's AOR, with excellent keyboards arrangements and backing vocals), "Vampyro Fang Club" (this extremely a Pop-Orientated song, with gluing melodies, chorus and backing vocals), "Lucyfer Prime Evil" and "Lycantropical Island" (this one has a clear heavy touch without losing the melodic hooks, with an efficient and heavy work of bass guitar and drums), and "Heavengeance" (another moment with elements of the 70's, and the screamed tunes of the vocals fits on it in a great way). But the entire album is excellent, filled with songs that will catch the fans at the first listen.

LORDI keeps on its saga with "Screem Writers Guild", and maybe they can reach a broader set of fans for it. The older fans will like it for sure.
