The experience of hearing a release for yourself can't be changed by any other you can think of. Even if a writer can write a thousand words, one release can be said 'likable' or 'not likeable' by the ears, and even the definitions can fall apart. And to have a deeper understand of what the German one man band RODTGOD can offer on "Graveside Service", to listen to this EP carefully is needed. Some would say that the band has a foot into Sludge subgenres, but it's not true. The band is really cooking influences of Doom Metal, Death Metal and even of Groove Thrash Metal into a massive and weighty cauldron, creating a different experience.

It's aggressive and abrasive, adorned with good melodies here and there, and with some modern touches (as the contrasts between grunts with high pitched screams on some moments, as on "Tomb"). It's not as usual as the words can seem, so be prepared by a flow of massive and aggressive energy into the ears. The songs were recorded, mixed and mastered by RODTGOD (or in other words, C. himself), and things seems a bit 'stiff' for the ears, or in other words, there's a lack of something spontaneous. But one can hear and check that the band sounds aggressive and understandable as well.

One can check that the work of C. offers a different set of ideas, something that isn't usual, but personal. "Filamentis" offers some experience of Doom Metal mixed with Groove Metal touches, with abrasive modern guitars; on "Tomb", the contrasts between a modern approach with abrasive groove and aggressiveness expressed by the guitars is clear to the ears, but pay attention on the rhythmic shifts of bass guitar and drums. On "Graveside Service", there's a touch of Stoner Metal filling the Doom/Groove Metal melodies, especially due the guitar riffs. And on "What Was Does Not Define..." is shown a set of different elements (as catchy melodies), even keeping things into a Doom/Death Metal form, with grunts oppressing the ears.

For now, "Graveside Service" is here to show that RODTGOD isn't constrained to labels, and dares to experiment with things. And I hope the fans can understand and absorb the band's music as it deserves.
