KOHNERAH is a destructive death metal band from Kansas City in the United States. They were formed in 2016 and have released three singles to date which are the three opening tracks to their debut album Ominous Ubiquitous. Their music is described as destructive death metal and you are brought face to face with the monster in the first track "Wake of Oblivion". A burner of a track that shows that the band has taken the time honing their sound as it is a battering ram of devastation. Chris was a longtime friend of the band and stepped in behind the kit to round out the lineup in 2019 and crushes it track by track. Solid solo that pieces in behind the strong double bass and creative rhythm guitar.

Double hoarse vocal growls summon "Bovine Excision" to life and cling to the track like a predator to the throat of its victim. Really powerful presentation of vocals to the already ultra aggressive music. The music is a cross up of technical and deathcore similar to the likes of SUFFOCATION, DYING FETUS or DECAPITATED. "Antimatter Annihilation" is a blistering headbanger of a track, though forcefully driven by a rapid pace, never loses the death metal rhythm that has set the bar since the late 80's. Standing out on the track "Eye of the Panopticon" is a strong bass line that uses technique and rhythm to form the bases of a catchy and colossal sound. The song itself is more on the technical side with the guitars but it is a force of nature in its own right.

Melodic guitar matched with bass opens up the track "Plucked From the Sky". The drums quickly follow the trend as the track begins to open up with some heavy and funky guitar work. The vocals spit putrid lyrics at every turn of the music, engaging and interacting with interstellar forms. The album finishes up with the track "Elegiac Departure". More great bass tone to set it in motion before matching up with crushing drums and varied riffs elevating from sonic and soaring notes, to technical and punishing. The music does veer towards the more melodic and technical work as it creeps towards the end of the release. It shows the levels of capabilities and creativeness of the musicians involved. With it being a little on the short side with only seven tracks, it will be interesting to hear what these guys bring with their next studio effort, as it does leave you wanting more. I would recommend giving this a listen as there will be more and more room for newer bands to step into the spotlight as your more popular and similar sounding counterparts start to reach their twilight years.
