In The Light Of A New Day

It has been a long time since I last reviewed a Copro or Casket Records release. This label has recruited many great underground bands that amazed me with their Thrash Metal, Hard Rock or even Grunge. This time it is I-DEF-I's turn to prove that I have a good reason to like this label and its bands. Really, what do they play?
Even though I wasn't even aware of this band's existence, I searched to find some info about them and I found out that these guys have done some serious and professional work. They have only released two EP's and this is just their debut album, but they have already managed to play with bands such as DRY KILL LOGIC, BREED 77, FEAR FACTORY, SKINDRED, STONE SOUR and ONE MINUTE SILENCE. They have also played at Download Festival and they have endorsements from labels such as Ibanez, Line 6 and Warwick! Something smells really good here!
The bands they have supported may have already given you an idea of what this band plays. Basically, it is something between Nu Metal and Metalcore. Not so brutal, but not so melodic either. The British metallers have created a pretty interesting mix of both brutality and melody that is definitely not the gay thing I was expecting to hear. The band has composed 15 really good songs that will make you spend some time without getting bored or skipping tracks (if this kind of music is what you like of course). The production is really nice and heavy, and that helps the band's music become much more pleasant of course! The vocals are both distorted and clean, but that's not something you hear about for the first time. Anyway, I am just trying to explain that it may sound a classic Metalcore release, but it surely isn't one. In fact, you will even find some Grunge influences in In The Light Of A New Day. What seemed a bit negative to me was the album's duration. I think that its approximately 57 minutes are too many for such kind of music.
If you are looking for something modern that sounds something like a PANTERA meets LINKIN PARK work, this album may be a really good addition to your growing collection. As for the old school fans and the rest, better go look for something else.
