Cinis - Lies that Comfort Me album cover

After the dictatorship era in Eastern Europe, many bands arose from those countries and shown that Metal was done there even under unpleasant conditions. Today, is easy to check the power of the bands that come from there, especially Poland, where Death Metal has a strong School (names as VADER really set strong foundations there). And CINIS comes with their third full length, "Lies that Comfort Me", a brutal release, indeed.

Their musical work can be said as traditional/classic Death Metal, but having in mind that the quartet isn't copying anyone, but establishing things in their own way. It's brutal, aggressive, massive, sometimes fast and on others slow, but always heavy as Hell. The main feature of the band is that, even not using a high level of instrumental technique, the care in the arrangements is really amazing, especially because they're not trying to be pure, and it means that they don't deny the use of some elements inherited from other Metal genres (as the Death/Thrash Metal outfit used in some parts of "Confirmation Bias"). But for those that only want to enjoy a good Death Metal band, this quartet is for you for sure!

The sonority was conceived to fit on modern form of Death Metal releases: clean and defined, with the aggressiveness coming from the instrumental tunes. And it's amazing how it enables their musical work to be easy to understand, but can cause severe bleeding in the ears of non-used fans. Their album is really amazing for the fans of extreme Metal tendencies, but for enjoying it for the first time, "Maladies" (that presents some strong influences of Groove/Thrash Metal on the guitars riffs and arrangements), "Confirmation Bias" (excellent arrangements on the whole instrumental parts, with the strong presence of bass guitar and drums giving support to the guitars), "Cutie" (what a massive and technical song, with very good rhythms and grunts), "Inundation" (this one shows a tendency of using brutal Death/Thrash Metal arrangements, with a technical care that isn't usual for the genre), and "Assembly" are the ones to do so.

This third release can establish CINIS as a strong name in the Polish Extreme Metal scene. If there's any doubt about it, listen to "Lies that Comfort me" and check for yourself.
