Mad Max - Wings Of Time album cover

The first time I heard the German rockers of MAD MAX was in the beginning of their career. My thoughts back then were that I was listening to a very poor substitute for a number of UK and USA Melodic Metal/Rock bands from the early eighties. My thinking was such because I felt they came with shoddy songs, bad pronunciation of the English language and poor production. In short, they fell short! The after effect of this was that I never bothered to listen to them since. The fact that our main distributor decided to choose me to review their latest offering "Wings Of Time" has upset my challenge to ignore the band totally. So it was with some trepidation that I conferred the music from my laptop to my smartphone, and put it on my headphones on a Saturday morning whilst walking the dog. Boy, was I in for a very nasty surprise.

Just to be abundantly blunt to myself: what a great big fool I have been. Why do I say this? Because the Melodic Rock that MAD MAX are throwing at me is bloody good. Not only that, with Julian Rolinger they have an absolute world class singer in their midst. And no, the rest of the band isn't any less impressive than him, as they are proving to us all through the album. It makes "Wings Of Time" into a very pleasant album with good songs, well executed and of course a perfect production. All these elements are very much essential of you wish to produce a good Melodic Metal album.

As this is the fourteenth (14!) full length album by the band, you know that they are extremely experienced, and you are very much hoping that they have improved with time. Well, I'll just eat some humble pie and admit that they have exceeded my expectation a thousandfold. I never could have guessed that they would be this good. So, there you have it, I have another band that I need to readjust my opinion of. And I have to say that I gladly will do that If any band proves me wrong to such an extent as MAD MAX has. I will stand up and shout to the world that they have produced a bloody good album with "Wings Of Time" to anyone that is willing to listen to me. Oh, I think I just did.
