Detroit Muscle
Ted Nugent
It would be a fine thing if some artists could be known exclusively by their works, and not for some disgusting things they do in their personal life (some really love to open their opinions and visions to the world to hear and see, you know). Leaving aside personal thoughts, "Detroit Muscle", the latest album of Detroit madman TED NUGENT, is a good release.
On the album, one can find the most organic and savage form of Rock 'n' Roll that gave birth to North American Hard Rock in the late years of the 60's, genuine and with the right balance between melodic hooks, aggressive and crude energy, and a touch of that rough elegance that Detroit-based artists in general uses on their music, but it doesn't sound something outdated, but full of life. Although Ted is widely recognized for his playing, he evades overloading the tracks with self-indulgent technique. Well, the fans couldn't expect more of him. As an artist with a long experience run into Rock 'n' Roll and Hard Rock, it's obvious that one could expect to hear an album with a simple and organic, and it's really what "Detroit Muscle" is about. But once more: the album sounds actual, so things were set in a form to bring the old ways of his band to our present time.
The fans will have nothing to complain about, because the old musical form of Ted's music is presented on the tracks. But for a first bite on the album, the aggressive and melodic blend shown on the instrumental arrangements of "Detroit Muscle" (fine guitar parts, with good riffs and solos), the slow and greasy Hard Rock songs "Come and Take It" and "American Campfire" (with a fine and good technical work on bass guitar and drums), the frantic rhythmic hooks of "Just Leave Me Alone", the deep North American Rock essence of "Alaska", the abrasive and tender ambiences of "Winter Spring Summer Fall", and manic energy flux spread by "Feedback Grind Fire" are the best ones for it.
If you're a fan of Ted's work, "Detroit Muscle" isn't a new classic from him, but's a fine release to keep his old flame alive. For those that aren't fans, it's a good release to check his talented music.
