Instigate - Unheeded Warnings of Decay album cover

The primordial name of a specific Metal subgenre becomes a subjective idea as time passes by. An example: what does 'Death Metal' mean today? Of course, when you look to the pioneers as DEATH, POSSESSED, MASSACRE, MASTER and others, a description could be easier to be done; but today, more than 30 years after the birth of the genre, it becomes hard to define with words. So the best way is to forget conceptions and to hear, and it means that a full understanding of what the Italian rioters of INSTIGATE are up to is only for those who hear to "Unheeded Warnings of Decay".

It's not a form of Old School Death Metal, but it's not something that any label could define with precision. It's a form of classic Death Metal in the European vein, but with some modern touches (enhanced brutality, some fast blast beats, and even little touch of groove in some moments, as on "Haruspex"). Yes, it's massive, brutal and aggressive, with a very good technical level (especially on the drums), but done with care and with very good instrumental arrangements. And the energy that flows from the tracks is amazing. Be prepared to have your ears destroyed. The sonority of "Unheeded Warnings of Decay" fits in the model that's usual today: with a brutal and nasty approach, crushing instrumental tunes. But of course it's defined, with everything in its due places. It means that this release is a sound massacre, but in a form that can be fully understood.

A massive combination of a monstrous set of brutal arrangements with low grunts, the music of the quartet is hard to resist for a Death Metal fan (even not being something new at all). But to feel the slaughter imposed by these guys, hear to "Witness of the End Times" (after a climatic intro, the song explodes into a merciless and fast attack with very good work on the rhythms, what means that bass guitar and drums are working in an excellent way), "Haruspex" (some touches of Modern Metal tendencies can be detected into the brutal musical blend of the band, and the guitar riffs are full of very good extreme hooks), "Atonement" (again a song with good rhythmic contrasts, and they allow the vocals to have a better expressive form), "Indoctrinated Reborn" (a very good mix of Death Metal elements with some Crossover/Thrashcore catchy parts), "Resurrection Denied" (another brutal and oppressive moment of the album, with fine musical arrangements), and "Seeds of Cain" is an invitation to moshpitting moments.

Yes, the work shown on "Unheeded Warnings of Decay" is really excellent, and INSTIGATE comes to storm and take the scene by assault. Surrender now!
