Back in the middle of the 90's, it seems that the extreme Metal approach in Finland started to show improvements. From traditional forms of their early works, AMORPHIS with "Tales from the Thousand Lakes" (1994) and SENTENCED with "Amok" (1995) light the way for a melodic approach into extreme Metal genres. Today, to speak about Finnish Melodic Death Metal is something usual, but no one can say that the genre isn't breeding new good names, as can be heard on "The Void and the Vengeance", the second album of THY KINGDOM WILL BURN.

The quartet works on a model of Melodic Death Metal that isn't common due the use of some groove elements (clearly heard on moments of "Disbelief"), and even some Hard Rock and Rock 'n' Roll elements (pay attention on the guitar solos and some arrangements on the beginning of "Veil of Wicked Sky"). Maybe words can't state clearly what the album is up to, but the best way is to say that is aggressive and nasty, yet melodic and catchy, and filled with a massive and personal energy. Yes, it's really very good to hear such album. The sound production was done in a way that the band could sound aggressive and with a massive energy, but always allowing their musical arrangements to be heard and understood. It's modern (in the sense that things are clean and defined, but aggressive), and with very good instrumental tunes.

The 9 songs of "The Void and the Vengeance" can seduce easily the fans of Metal tendencies that combine melodies and extreme elements. But for the first time on the album, "Between Two Worlds" (a fine set of catchy contrasts between aggressive and clean parts, always with excellent guitars' arrangements), "Disbelief" (another live hit for a show, with a charming energy and some lovely melodies here and there, and what very good grunts are presented on it), "Veil of Wicked Sky" (where some influences of Groove/Rock 'n' Roll arise, and with a very good playing on bass guitar and drums, and some gothic vocals can be heard), "Nothing Remains" (these catchy parts are showing some Hard Rock harmonies), "Barren Land" (fine mix between melancholic melodies and harsh ambiences, with solid rhythms created by bass guitar and drums once more), "Siren of Doom" (some accessible touches in the middle of the melancholic ambiences in a Finnish way are really excellent), and "Through the Broken Lens" are the right ones for a presentation.

It seems that THY KINGDOM WILL BURN have come to a point on their career that combines maturing and inspiration. And "The Void and the Vengeance" can take them to another level.
