Faustian Reawakening
Wachenfeldt
As time passed, all Metal genres evolved. Today, the forms used in 70's, 80's and 90's are all called 'Old School', because they were modern in some moment, but now is called old fashioned (please, no one said it's not good), and in the future, what some call as 'modern' will be old as well. Today, one can say that the Swedish trio WACHENFELDT's work shown on "Faustian Reawakening" is modern or old (it depends of the point of view used), but no one can deny that's really good.
It can be labeled as a Blackened Death Metal form of music, using elements from Thrash Metal in some moments (due to some hooks), on others some Symphonic touches (due the presence of eerie orchestrations of the keyboards), and even some melodic sense in many moments, but always extreme and able to cause earaches on the non-used fans. It's really creative and uses a personal insight to make their songs filled with energy and hooks, and prepare yourself by an amazing energy hitting your eardrums. These guys aren't kidding! The sonority of on "Faustian Reawakening" combines crudeness and brutality alike, creating a massive sound that can hurt the ears, but their musical ideas are expressed clearly, without problems to understand what their music is up to. It's really an excellent sonority that fits in what the trio wants to show.
It's hard to choose some songs for the lazy ones that needs references, but maybe a bit on "Primaeval Order" (an infernal maelstrom of brutality and with some morbid symphonic moments, and what very good set of catchy guitar riffs and arrangements), "Faustian Reawakening" (an oppressive Death/Thrash Metal set of elements can be heard, along some great melodic parts, and what good contrasts between shrieks and guttural vocals), "Become Who You Are" (this one, even with brutal moments, has an atmospheric/experimental unusual approach due some rhythmic changes created by bass guitar and drums), "Fertilize the Soil" (another set of extremely catchy instrumental parts and with charming eerie orchestrations), "The Warrior Mounds" (this one shows excellent melodic dense moments in a trend similar to CRADLE OF FILTH, and what great guitars), and "Where Everything Ends" (a savage and fast song, showing an increase on Death/Thrash Metal influences) can do the job of presenting the fans to the band's music.
"Faustian Reawakening" is that kind of album that extreme Metal fans must hear once in a lifetime, and be prepared for WACHENFELDT's assault!
