Ved Lysets Ophør
Tugt

Black Metal acts that use a slower approach on the rhythms and some introspective parts are usually near what one can labeled as Atmospheric Black Metal. It's common to think that some traditional Black Metal albums such as ANCIENT's "Svartalvheim" in such a way, because the boundaries between both genres are extremely thin. Anyway, to be overly thinking about genre labels makes people lose the most important think: to listen to and enjoy a release. And the Danish trio TUGT offers on "Ved Lysets Ophør" a great experience for the fans of the genre.
They're into a classic form of Black Metal that uses slow tempos (what reinforces the funereal and morbid feeling that can chill the spine of anyone), with a melodic sense guiding many of their songs due the search for something introspective and that can depict their inner musical ideas. The band's technical work is really simple, but a form of entangling energy with set a hook on the fans of Black Metal that misses the old days of the genre. Recorded during October 2020 (during the lockdown due COVID-19's pandemic) at Wolf Den Studio, and recorded, mixed & mastered by the hands of Saxtorph, everything is filled with that nasty and funereal ambience that is usual to hear on early releases of the 90's, with a harsh and organic set of instrumental tunes. But it's not so hard to understand what is being expressed by the band.
"Sorte Stunder" and "De Hvide Sale" (two funeral songs with slow tempos with somber guitars, and filled with some introspective and disturbing parts), "Gråsind" (this one is filled with a very good set of rhythms, in a good work of bass guitar and drums), "Fortabt" (that has a classical Black Metal appeal with some fast moments, want what very good shrieks), and "Efterspil" are fine examples of what this trio is up to with their musical work. Even being a band with 10 years of experience on its shoulders, "Ved Lysets Ophør" is just TUGT's first album. So we can expect more of the trio from the future, of course.
