Since the early days when Metal appeared on Earth and opened an ample range of musical possibilities, more and more bands are trying to sound in a unique way. And after the 80's, some unusual experiments appeared, different forms of expressions. Some are hard to explain with words, and for some fans, the expression used by the Finnish one-man band DRUADAN FOREST will be hard to deal with, as it's depicted on "Portals".

The music is a form of Folk/Epic/Ambient Black Metal, a form of music that became popular thanks to names as MORTIIS, PAZUZU and some others. It's a form of landscaping ambiences with an oppressive expression sometimes, based solely on synths and effects. It's not so easy to swallow for those who are used to expressionisms of vocals, bass guitar, guitars and drums, but it will be a good experience for those fans that are into such genre. The sonority of the album isn't so hard to describe, because with such musical approach, things must be defined to a point that the landscaping appeal must be kept clean. But for a work based on keyboards and effects, it's not so hard to be done on a studio (if one does not want to mess things up).

Such appeal can earn fans from New Age music as well, and moments as "Ethereal Eternity Reflects the Images of Vast Eerie Pasts" (some melancholic parts gives a 'tolkenian' impression to the fans), "The Infinite Forest of Galaxies" (a song with a more introspective appeal, like walking into Fangorn Forest), "Spirits of the Great Void Abyss" (the dark and sinister landscaping appeal is really oppressive), and "Paint My Demons Black" (with its eerie appeal) are the right ones for those that are into such a genre.

"Portals" isn't a release for those that aren't into such a form of music, so DRUADAN FOREST is the kind of band for a few fans. For them, enjoy it.
