Moon Oracle - Muse of the Nightside album cover

From their Bandcamp page, MOON ORACLE was formed by Sûrya-Ishtara and U after spending years searching for their own sound with previous bands. Later on, Harald Mentor was asked to fill the role of vocalist. Thus formed, MOON ORACLE began their first recording in earnest. MOON ORACLE is not for everyone; taboos exist for a reason. For those of such constitution, their "Muse of the Nightside" will open its chasm and ensnare with lurid ease. The album contains six tracks.

"The Huntress and the Hunted" leads off the album. It opens with a heavy, industrial sound and harsh, guttural vocals. The production and manner of the compositions have an amateur quality to them. "A Rape on the Plain of Nysa" is a shorter song, with weighted drumming and more of that awful production. The guitars buzz loudly and the constant snare drum strikes outweigh most of the other sounds on the album. "Rite of the Chthonic Mother" is another shorter song with much the same sound.

"Sinister Decresence" is another two-minutes of controlled chaos where some phasing can be heard. "Crossroads (Mysterium Triformis)" begins with some spoken word, and slow, lumbering bass guitar notes. Once again, the drummer shows himself as an amateur at best...he can barely keep the beat. Do I have to marvel at how it's possible for this band to be signed? "The 10th Hour" closes the album. It begins with low and steady bass notes, then in comes the drums. It isn't until after the four-minute mark when the song has some real audibility. The broken guitar solo at the end should tell you all you need to know about the musicianship of the band.

This was a pretty awful album overall. Six tracks of heavy riffing and somewhat muted vocals really don't make for much of a listening experience. Dissonance reigns free on the album, though the songs have some semblance of order, the album as a whole is quite bad. Nearly every track sound like the one before it. Don't waste your time.
