Modern Metal can be seen in two ways: a new Metal genre, or as a new aesthetics used by bands from many different Metal genres. Both make sense, the best to do in some occasions is to have the second idea in mind. This is the best way to deal with bands as DEATH PERCEPTION, from Canada (a country that really is a barn for such form of Metal), as "Ashes" is here to be a proof of such words.

Their musical work can be described as a fine blend between SLAYER, Death Metal acts as DEICIDE and all those good traditional names from Florida with a Modern Metal aesthesis, full of breakdowns and Groove similar to what is heard on works of names as LAMB OF GOD and DEVILDRIVER. It's brutal and oppressive, but filled with Groove parts and elements, and the band works in a way that unleashes a mastodonic weight and a massive energy, but always in a catchy way. Yes, it's truly very good.

"Ashes" was recorded at Poseidon Recordings in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in many dates throughout 2020 (maybe a consequence of COVID-19 pandemic). The mixing was done by the hands of Steve Haines, and the mastering was done by Jamie King. It's brutal and aggressive, but with a very good level of definition (for the listeners to understand what they're doing). It's a very good work, indeed (but it could be better).

Massive and nasty, "Ashes" is an offering to the younger fans, as well to those with open mind. So dig into the album, because songs as "Bleed to Death" (brutal and sharp, with very good snarls and grunts, but the main tune used is a screamed one, along modern guitars arrangements), "In Plain Sight" (the balance between Death Metal influences with the modern aesthetics is 50-50%, with a great work played by bass guitar and drums), "No Tears for the Dead" (that shows some very good modern melodic arrangements in some parts), "Wars" (a brutal crushing song with massive Groove flowing from the guitar riffs), and "Final Breath" (very charming arrangements, indeed) are here to smash your brain and drill through your ears!

"Ashes" is a really good album, but DEATH PERCEPTION is just the beginning the slaughter...
