El Camazotz
Entierro
The USA Metal School earns and shares common elements with the English School, and even some early influences from NWOBHM can be heard on the US Metal bands, but one name that heavily influenced the North American seminal names is JUDAS PRIEST. It's something obvious for trained ears, and even after more than 40 years, things are still in this way, although the North American Heavy Metal bands can show something different, as can be heard on "El Camazotz", the latest release from the quartet ENTIERRO.
In the band, the members experience can be felt due their works with bands as ICHABOD and FATES WARNING (the guitarist Victor played on "Night on Bröcken" and "The Spectre Within"), and on their musical work pulses the honest and heavy US Metal, but a modern touch and a Stoner Rock/Doom Metal touch in some moments. And yes, it's really pretty good for the ears to rear such flow of energy and melodies that are easy to be suck into them. Dave Kaminsky took care of the mixing and the sound engineering, and Nick Zampiello did the mastering of the EP. It's a good work, blending the clarity to make the band understandable, but with a strong sense of aggressiveness and weight. But the instrumental tunes used are really excellent.
"The Penance" carries the same melodic sense of other US Metal bands, but mixed with a modern Thrashy aggressiveness (that comes from the excellent guitars riffs, and what great solos and duets), and the same elements can be found on "The Tower" as well (but what melodic and catchy chorus, with excellent vocals and backing vocals). The mix between a classic Metal weight with melodies inherited from early hard Rock can be heard on "The Past" (another catchy chorus can be heard). And "El Camazotz" brings back the aggressive insight of the first song, but with a solid and good work from bass guitar and drums. And closing, they show a personal (and great) version for JUDAS PRIEST's "Call for the Priest" (a song from "Sin After Sin"), and maybe some can finally understand why this writer always say that the Birmingham's quintet is a solid influence for US Metal (and one of the three most important bands for Metal).
It's truly a pity that "El Camazotz" has only five songs, but it shows that the US Metal School's still strong after all these years. And ENTIERRO deserves applause for it!
